Lighting for Macro

I'd be grateful for knowing the pros & cons of a ringflash set up against something like the nikon r1c1. I can see that the nikon is way more expensive but do you get better results with say a nikon micro 105mm lens. Macro is something I would like to get into at some point but I'd like to know what peoples' experience is with both methods
