Got booked this afternoon for a job tomorrow in a unfamiliar context - nice to have proper notice. :(

This is all I've told: full body shots of a dancer required on a plain background for an applications portfolio. Set up at the school where the dancer's teacher will help set up the moves.

New one for me so any thoughts from anyone who has had a similar brief will be appreciated. I'm guessing the subject needs to be evenly lit so that musculature is emphasised for this type of shot, and that creative use of shadow is to be avoided? But flying blind on this one unless I get a late night response to one of the two emails I've just fired back at them.

Any thoughts?

I'll be doing this all day on Saturday!

The most important part of this is that the dancer's position is correct, which is where the teacher comes in. They will tell you and the dancer when it's right, you just press the button.

The lighting doesn't have to be complex; I'll be using one head with a large Octabox. It just needs to be clean and simple.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, that's a relief. Clean and simple suits me just fine!

What are you using for background?

A Lastolite White vinyl, 2.72m wide.

You will need to establish where they can stand so that they are not sticking out at either end when they go into 'Arabesque' (standing on one leg with an arm sticking out in front and the leg sticking out behind to you and me!) Once you've got that sorted, you should be able to keep them on the backdrop and avoid extra processing.

Thanks for the Arabesque warning. Looking forward to this now. Also just got a call from the teacher so can now have a beer and watch the end of the football. Thanks again  I'll be using the paper equivalent btw.

No worries! Paper will be fine, it will last a lot longer with dancers than with anyone else I could think of! Have fun!
