Hi All,

I am looking to do a lighting course, in particular off camera flash. The kit lighting kit i currently have is SB800, SB900, ebay Ezybox and a westcott umbrella, a few lighting stands. I really want to be able to get the best so thought some training would be the best route. Or if there is anybody out there that would be will to give me a guiding hand would be even better, i am based in Cardiff but happy to travel within reason

Cheers

I hired a studio in Leeds, £40 for 2 hours, the guys were triffic, camera settings etc.
'Google' your local area?
Jim

I provide individual training at my studio in Bradford, not the cheapest but it works...

Only thing is, I only teach the use of studio flash, not hotshoe flashes.

Iv just followed the strobist site and also watched the one light dvd by zack arias and its amazing!

I love your natural light photos btw i could do with a few tips on that myself.

I am attending a two day workshop taught by bert staphani in sept. It is aimed at people looking to take portraits using off camera flash.

i actually posted a thread last week with all the links and details if you are interested. Do a search for bert stephani on here.

I'm told that Brett Harkness runs an execllent course called Funky Flash - it's reported to be top notch and practically takes you through using off camera speedlights in an urban environment. Unfortunately though, like all such courses it costs over £300 for the day - too much for me.

So why does it say "call my studio" on your website?

I`m from Cardiff as well and have been on a few courses with http://www.markcleghorn.com
he is based in Cardiff.

Only thing is his next off camera flash course is in October...

But he has setup online training site http://www.pt4u.tv which has off camera flash info...

Bert's one is less than that and it's over 2 days.
Will cover ambient as well as flash and he's giving away some California Sunbounce gear too

If you can then I recommend getting hold of the Onelight DVD by Zack Arias, it really helped me and he just uses hotshoe flashes.

and an Alien Bee 1600, which isn't a hotshoe flash...

One light DVD's are definitely worth a watch. I borrowed a set a couple of months ago, and wish I could watch them over again (may just have to cough up the cash)

You could just set them up in your spare room and experiment if you have a willing model.

Alien Bees get a good reputation and seem good value for money.
Is anyone getting them from the US for UK wholesale or are they still individual import only?

they did have a european set up in Swtizerland or Norway or somewhere odd that was outside the EU so still a pain to import from :bang: got a feeling something happened to it though....

Hmm.
Getting the lights is ok I guess once you're hit with the duty (:annoyed:), but getting bits for them may be an arse

I was thinking more about replacing blown strobes r maintenance, but you have a point with the accessories
