Hi guys,

I know this forum isn’t google, but I just value everyone’s opinions and advice... and I find it helps me justify spending money ‍♂️

I’m looking for a light source that I can use at events, mainly at the press board that I am inevitably placed on. A fellow photographer used the yongnuo yn308 attached to a tripod at a recent event and it worked wonders.

The delivery time on this seems to be awfully long, so I’m wondering if anyone knows good alternatives or where I might be able to order and get it sooner? I have other events lined up, so it would be handy [emoji30]

Yongnuo YN308 is a ring light, plenty on Amazon for immediate delivery. If that's what you want, but limited uses and no substitute for a flash gun.

^What Richard said.
And if you want your light off camera, a pop up softbox takes up similar space to a large led ring but is bigger and infinitely brighter once up.

I do have a softbox which I took with me. It’s rather big and plugs into the wall. Which makes it not an ideal piece for when I’m working the press board. Wires in the way on the floor.

Any recommendations for something a little smaller and battery powered then?

What kind of events/subject? At what distance?

Environment - ambient light, indoors, outdoors sun/shade?

What are the images used for? Can you post or link to an example?

I have no experience of either of these myself as I have no need of them, but they are used and recommended by many:

If your ‘softbox’ is a cheap Chinese softbox containing fluorescent bulbs then any decent flashgun in one of these will be better.
Add any flashgun that you can trigger remotely or the Godox ad200
