I've got a shoot for a friend and his family coming up,in my home Studio after they have seen some of my own personal family shots, they want some high key photos, I've already got a pair of lencarta smartflashes to light the bg, (2.7m artic white paper) I need another light for the than main key light, rather than buy another studio strobe I was think of getting a speedlite like the new canon600 ex-rt , call it an earlier Xmas present from the missus. I hardly you my strobes and i think I'll get much more use from the speedlite, as I like doing portraits outdoors too, one of my main concerns is will the speed lite be powerful enough and would it light a large softbox

600RT has a bit over 100Ws equivalent which is enough, but recycling will be slow at full power. I use speedlites quite a lot with studio lights, but only for background etc at lower power where they're fine.

Maybe you could do that, though the best answer is surely to just cough up another £110 and get another Smartflash.

Or pursuade your friends that a nice light grey background with a bit of graduation on it is the latest thing :D
