Lighting a large group

I wonder if someone can help, I have been approached to take a group portrait for a Birthday present.

The trouble is that there will be 17 people in the group.

I think I am going to have to find a suitable location and light it, can someone give me any pointers of suitable lighting?

I have taken groups before at weddings but I think the Client wants something a bit more than your standard group shot.

does it have to be indoors?
go outdoors, and use our natural light source

Use two lights on stands, as high as you can get them, firing from the front of the group down towards them.
