Light Trail Tips?

Hey,

Didn't really know if this was the right area to put this in but seeing as it is sort of general photography...

I'm getting used to shooting out of the normal modes now on my camera and I decided to try out light trails. When I look at other people's light trails behind cars they have quite a few trails with no cars in the pictures, but when I do it I can only get about two trails before I get a car in the picture. So can anyone tell me some tips to avoid getting cars in pictures. Sorry if that didn't make any sense.

i normally use a long shutter speed. Try 15-30 seconds in shutter priority. this should get the affect you are after.

So really you just have to find a shutter speed which by the end of it the light source will not be in it?
 
it's all trial and error. I use: Manual Mode, smallest aperture possble, (F22 usually), Shutter speed 20 seconds.

Remember you can always take more than one shot then blend them together in photoshop ;)

Thats four shots all blended together to give better light trails. The camera never lies? yeah right :lol:

mattyh: The camera doesn't lie, it captures what's there... but the software means the tog can lie hahaha.
