Hi all
I'm after some lightweight, portable light stands :thinking: any suggestions of type or supplier warmly welcomed :)

I just use a couple of cheap tripods I got off ebay, mount AS-19 type feet on them and attach speedlights :)

thanks David, I only plan to use them with flash guns (580EX), whats wrong with them?

Thanks mate, but I need some height, upto about 2 mtrs(ish)

they're v light and fall over with mods on the top espesh at height / wind

nothing wrong apart from that and I've found putting them down the right way and laying my cam bag on them keeps them stable ish

I wanna get water filled sandbags (portable when empty - heavy when full) at some point but haven't yet

an umbrella adaptor is the easiest bet, I use a manfrotto one aparently cheaper ones can fail but it might be worth a go if on a budget

also pick up a calumet dual duty brolly they're dead good, though mine is big and blew over and has been bent by impact and bent back by me lots and lots :D

I've got several stands, including some much more expensive than those Konigs.

I prefer the Konigs because they are light and the slightly smaller spread of the legs means you're slightly less likely to trip over them. Stability shouldn't be a problem indoors, and outdoors if it's blowy nothing stays up long without weighting down anyway.

Mine also came with a light zip-up bag with carrying strap, and there's a 1/4in thread on top of the regular spigot to attach a flash directly if you like, but an adjustable bracket is obviously much better.

I think they're very good :thumbs:
 
Sorry to butt in but anyone used the Manfrotto Nano's? Am also looking for stand, umbrella adaptor set up.
 
I've got a manfrotto nano, it's an excellent stand and very small and light, and folds down to 46cm - however, it is a bit *too* light for some stuff, and also pretty expensive, ie about the same as 3 or 4 konig stands.
 
Oh well i've just gone and ordered one from the Amazon link, thanks. Can't really go wrong at that price (i hope) :thumbs:
 
I bought one from there. Came about three days later. I'm no expert, but it looks good for such a small amount of money!
 
How small do they fold up?

Loooking at the Manfrotto ultra lights - fold down to 19cm, which is ideal for packing in a pannier on the bike. That would free me from the prison of the car......
 
I've got Manfrotto Nanos, they fold down so small that they fit in the bag that came with my monopod :D

How many people here spotted that Calumet are now doing a rebranded Nano, for less ££ ;)

that's pretty damn reasonable really... but still, 3* the cost of the konigs, more after shipping... end of the day, if you are using the stands every day, the nano is probably the way to go, but for most people, the konigs are good, reliable and a bargain for the money.

I have a single nano as my daily kit, dave hobby style, and a set of konig stands for portable studio stuff. works well, though I might get another nano to double my daily kit...

grip kit's all far too expensive, going after some c stands and a boom soon too ;_;
 
if you have a few lights and on a budget then obviously konig are the way to go but it you had a 580ex speedlite for example then i would turn my nose at the konigs. at the end of the day light stands are like tripods, gotta be sturdy so you can rely on your flash being on there, just as you could with a tripod.
 
I trust my konigs as much, if not slightly more, to hold my flashes than the manfrotto nano, because of the extra weight, width of the legs and overall perceived 'wobbliness'. If you're using any of them outside, just weigh them down, even if not using a brolly - I've had bare flashes hit the deck from 2m after a strong gust of wind :(
 
Think im gonna get one of those Calumet Ultra Compact Stand they look good and small too which is handy :).

I've got cheap ebay stand and in any sort of wind with a softbox on it falls over :S, but still bounces back :) and my 580EXII seems to be ok, have got some ankle weights now which is better but still the Calumet stand looks smaller and easier to weigh down :).

Have you ever used the Konig..........

like everything you need to use some common sense - if its windy you will need to weight the stand - i do the same with my Carbon tripod its the price you pay for lightness and portability and piece of mind.
 
Do the 7dayshop ones come with a carry bag? Are the amazon ones Konig stands? doesnt say so in the title/description.

The bonus of the nano stands is they go REALLY low - much lower than the Konigs will - which is damn useful for backlights.
