Light stands + umbrellas

I don't know about "best" but for value you'll find some very cheap prices on Portaflash stands at cameras2u. I just ordered three of their 2.43m stands yesterday. Two are for Speedlites and one to hold a reflector boom. Stands are under £10 each and it's £4.95 delivery for the whole order. That's well under eBay prices for these stands. They also do 3.25m stands for £14 each but I'm not sure where or when I'd need that much height so I'll save a few quid and some carrying weight. 2.43m will reach my ceiling at home and that won't leave room for the brollies so it seems ample to me, unless photographing giants.

I'm getting my umbrella adapters from eBay. Two for a tenner, including delivery....

I've ordered my umbrellas from eBay as well. 40" translucent white shoothrough with removeable black/silver covers, to allow for bouncing, for £16 each, delivered...

Lastolite do kits purpose made for this sort of thing but at around £100 for a single stand/brolly/adapter (plus carry bag) I think I'll stick with my package, which nets out at £67 for a pair of stands/brollies/adapters. I guess the stands will arrive next week but the eBay stuff will probably take 2-3 weeks so I have no idea yet whether I've bought a load of rubbish. Fingers crossed :)

I've got a couple of the Portaflash stands and they are good for the money, a bit lightweight but you can't expect a lot for a tenner. Best to grab some before Jessops close cameras2u down the way they did Tecno.co.uk and jacks the price up to £30!
