What sort of modifiers do you use on your studio heads to light a white background?

Yes, that's what they're called.
2 x white reflective umbrellas, 1 each side and angled to light the opposite side, or 2 x square or rectangular softboxes, same arrangement, or 1 or 2 background reflectors - that's if you want even lighting. Shoot through umbrellas are unsuitable, silver umbrellas don't produce even enough lighting.

If you don't, then any one of a number of different tools can produce different effects.
 
Thanks Garry. I am struggling for space so would it be OK to have them high up pointing down?
 
It will work, but the lighting won't be very even, as obviously the further the light has to travel to get to (the bottom of) the background, the less light will reach it.
 
It will work if you light the bottom part of the background with a speedlight too. Works well when space is an issue.
