Hi,

I'm a complete speedlight newbie and would like to invest in an umbrella & light stand.

My question is, do I buy a shoot through or reflector umbrella?

I'll be using this setup to predominantly take shots of my kids indoors....

Why don't you buy a convertible which will give you the best of both worlds - white reflective and the black backing removes to give you a shoot through

Thanks for the link, i'll take a look....

From a slightly different angle and just out of interest, whats everyone's preference with regards to "shoot through" or "reflective" and the different effect that they achieve?

Make a brew and have a watch. Not solely relating to umbrellas but speed light portraiture in general.

There are a few B&H ones knocking about on speedlights. Have a look for Matt Graingers stuff too he has a few speedlight tutorials on.
