I have just ordered myself a set of Lencarta studio lights and I now I think I need a light meter.

What would you folks recommend I get?

Thanks

Rob

Really easy one to use and fairly cheap is the sekonic l308. It is a great little meter for studio flash and can also do ambient light aswell

Thanks, have seen this on Warehouse Express for £128 so may pop and get one (I live in Norwich where they have a very impressive showroom!!)

They all give the same results, so choice is down to personal preference, whether or not you really need the extra features on the more expensive ones and on whether or not you'll handle a consumer one gently, or whether you need to pay much more to get a pro model that bounces if you drop it

That's the one. I think most folks use it, including me. It's basic in terms of it does what you want, is well made and nice to use.

The next model up 358 has more modes and memory settings and other stuff which is nice, but it doesn't actually measure the light any differently. And it's a lot more money.

There are less expensive flash meters around, but they're not hugely cheaper and they look distinctly second rate to me, compared to that L308-S.

I use a Gossen digiflash. The tiny little one.

Its a really good ambient and flash meter. Accurate to thirds rather than tenths, but the size more than makes up for it.

Oh, and it chews batteries for breakfast! Have some spares.

FWIW, if you're using PocketWizards to trigger the Lencartas, there's an additional module you can buy to go inside the 358 that will trigger the lights when you take a reading on the meter.

Thanks everyone, now managed to secure a sekonic 308s from the wanted section on here. Now waiting for it to arrive next week.

Thanks again.
