Morning all,

I've been wanting to shoot more people in the hope I can build up a portrait and wedding business here in Abu Dhabi. There's a few really good photographers focussing on newborn and kids, but I'd really like to work with seniors, couples and also shoot weddings.

To build up some confidence working and directing people I've arranged a mini-shoot tomorrow with a fashion blogger here in Abu Dhabi. I sent her a message on Instagram asking if she'd be interested and she was really excited about the prospect. She's writing a new blog on a particular brand and we're going to get some shots for her to use.

I'll be using natural light, but looking for shade. Even at 9am here in Abu Dhabi it's quite bright but the place we're meeting is lined with palm trees.

Gear wise I'll be taking my D750 with 58mm 1.4 and my Fuji XPro 2 with the 24mm. I'll probably sling in the Sigma 35mm 1.4 as my back-up lens.

I'm quite casual about the shoot as there's little or no expectation from her and I'm confident no matter what happens she'll get photos that are 10x better than the ones she normally uses! BUT, I'd really like to make the most of the shoot.......... so the question to you is - any tips or advice? :)

TIA

Have a plan, have a plan "B" and be ready to use plan "C".
I'm sure you'll be fine. I've a similar thing coming up and I know it can be a bit nerve wracking.

I always get pre-shoot nerves no matter what I'm shooting. Most times it's what motivates me and gets me hyped before a shoot... But when it's something new, shooting someone I've never met and need to give at least some direction... Well :D

I'd take longer lenses too, but that's personal taste.

I'm guessing proper model, so the direction is easier.

If you're using the trees for open shade be aware of the colour cast, but it'll be a fix in post because there's no way of handling it in camera. Make it easy for yourself by setting the WB when shooting, then you are fixing against a known quantity.

Thanks Phil,

I ended up shooting solely with the 58mm as we had next to no time (she was late and I had a sofa being delivered!).

I did take your advice on board re: WB though. Thanks for that. They still need some work but a quik'n'dirty edit is already up in the critique section - https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/lifestyle-esque-shoot.623638/
