Well we went to the hospital to get the missus' 20 week scan and they've said it's going to be a boy - so chuffed and amazingly happy that everything going well with her pregnancy. Just can't wait for October to come round when we can really start family life when he's born :)...

...but as they say, to appreciate the sweet you have to experience the sour, and our good news was totally countered by the news that my missus' Dad has terminal lung cancer - so gutted :(
Those who've gone through that moment when the docs tell you the bad news will know just how heart-breaking it is to see someone being told they're going to die. Devastating

I'm so sorry for your bad news - there is nothing I can really say to make it any easier. The only positive thing you can say about knowing what's ahead for your father in law is that it gives you the opportunity to make the best of the time you have left with him. Try to counter the devastation by doing positive things - maybe plan something for him that he's always wanted to do? Try not to let the terrible news consume you all to the point where that's all his life is about now - celebrate the time that is left in any way you can.

On the other side of the coin - congratulations to you and Mrs Specialman!! Very exciting news - here's hoping that the little man will get to meet his grandad ;)

thats terrible to hear :( but best of british to your missus and I hope all goes well for her
