Do actually agree with you there society is better off without scum like that and his family seem to be the same
probably bravado tho and if he does it again he will be put away for a very long time hopefully
 
I've always felt prison should be a deterrent. A place so horrible that people will try and avoid going. A place that strips you of your rights down to the very basic - food, water, shelter. I've known people brought up in conditions worse than prison. Prison should be so horrible you'd never want to go back. Not a cushty ride.
 
He should be spending time North Korean prison camps style instead of fb.

Definitely agree about prison being a deterrent. It should provide only the basics, no access to the 'net and a sentence of X years should mean X years, if you play by the rules.

I don't like the idea of prisoners beating the hell out of each other, but agree its got to be grim. Personally I'd like to see labour enforced, hard graft. Some people would call it slavery, I would call it punishment and repayment to society for their crimes. They'd be in jail only to sleep and wash, but out working supervised by armed gaurds chain gang style.

Steve, your ongoing insistence that everyone that doesn't meet your self imposed moral high standards should be 'shot in the face' is starting to offend more and more people and we are getting more and more RTM's, so from here on in, perhaps you can suggest something a little less offensive and a little more likely to happen. Maybe you could even consider having a single ongoing thread for all your latest bad/outrage/indignation news links. Just a thought.

In both threads I have read comments about people supporting the death penalty and torture for the perp in the second. I am truly surprised so many would report my comments in this thread. Standards innit. I may consider a running thread actually. I'll replace "shot in the face" with "strung up" or "cannot assult people with hands cut off" and everything will be ok?

Of all the people I have known to spend a spell in prison, none have had it easy. A crappy little tv with limited stations after several months of good behaviour that they have to pay for but that's about it. Certainly never heard of anyone having internet access! I would doubt it'd the norm, if it happens at all. More likely a smuggled phone or someone posting on his behalf I would have thought is more likely.

A friend of a friend was in the Bar L, he said it was ok. 3 meals a day, tv, etc and gym etc. Another guy told me he wanted back inside, as it was better there but he was out of it on drugs.
 
A 'news discussion' section where people who want to vocalise their unhealthy pre-occupation with violent physical punishment and killing would be a fantastic idea.

loss of freedom is the punishment, there will always be some that have no to little life on the outside so prison is considered 'cushy' by them, but for the most will have family, a wife, kids etc.. that they cannot just choose to see when they want, nor can they walk to the pub, or to the shop for a sunday paper..

I would suspect a good % of prisoners are in on the most minor of offences a prison sentence is needed for, and I would like to hope that given the chance of reform/rehabilitation they will take it never to return.

my knowledge of the prison system is TV is group recreation, and its the prisoners that work the kitchens, clean the floors and keep the place in order.. you seem to think prisoners have whatever they want in the cells and have a maid service. I have also heard of cell blocks for the trouble makers where they have an unlit cell with no furniture and get a mattress at night.
 
You know prisoners don't 'get' Facebook, mobiles etc don't you? They access it on smuggled mobile telephones and if caught they get into a lot of trouble.
 
they can get up to 2 years more in the joint

I was just highlighting an in accuracy in your posting. You made it sound (as every good propagandist and shrieking kipper does) as if prisoners are issued with mobile phones, internet privileges and a pre-made Facebook account.

Having your liberty taken away is a hard thing to take, having it taken for years would be very difficult.

Saying that, perhaps we should just shoot all people ,who make a mistake, in the face.

If you did that, you would very quickly eradicate the human race, stop global warming, eradicated cancer in humans and reduce all deaths from road traffic accidents (and anything else topical). Looks like a win-win situation.

Steve, it's quite obvious that the guy isn't right in the head yet you're taking every that he has (or is being reported to have) said literally!

The guy clearly ain't right in the head. Look how he got there. Prisons been to easy on him. I feel sorry for his victim who may well see round 2 of this attack.

The papers can't print complete lies btw. This is true and very shocking

The papers certainly twist what people say and, given the guy they're quoting is clearly twisted, you're taking what the papers are reporting as gospel?

News oultets report out and out BS all the time, remedied by tiny retractions if necessary.
 
Stories like this used to annoy me too but I decided that it was better in most cases to just let people who know about things sort them out.

Most of this outrage isn't really outrage at all, it's more a case of "it's not fair - why should they get that and not me". Quite selfish really!

Not at all. I could easily eat 5 meals a day if I wanted to, but I don't why those in jail should. They should be given the bare minumum to keep them alive IMHO.
