LIFE (BBC one show)..

love life :D awsome filming from start to finish, havent watched the last episode though (have it on record :) ), its been a great serries, with some stunning slow motion filming, loved the bats on the preditor prey episode :)

When I was watching it (prior to them showing how it was shot) I was impressed with the positioning and original choice of where the camera would be.

When I saw the bit showing it's all a fake and bluescreened to death I felt cheated - what I saw was a great bit of footage had been 'photoshopped'.

Technically well done though.

photography bit aside (which was very good) I was more impressed by the joinery skills, how they recreated the scenery in a studio to the exact mm including the track the camera ran on, Fantastic work !

Two years for a plant to grow!.......... heck he should see the weeds round here they'd need high speed, even the new 7D's 8fps wouldn't cut it

I've just sen the repeat on BBC4, and was gobsmacked by the amount of planning and technology that went into that shot. Not that I understood how they did it, mind you .....

Overall, the quality of the photography in the series has been just awesome - and I really don't use that word lightly! The sequence of the lemur having to leave its baby behind in an earlier programme was terribly pignant.

I understand where your coming from, but the fact that the work that went into that to just get that scene is just awe inspiring, come on how many of us normal photographers would do something like that on our shoots?

Yeah there was alot of photoshopping going on, but in all honesty how could they possibily film it otherwise...

anyways... sometimes our licence fee is actually worth paying the money we pay for it, I love the life series and anything animal related.

I think I may well buy the series on bly ray when it comes out.

If they couldn't film it otherwise then it wasn't Life was it ?

The thing that stood out for me was it wasn't Life - it was a fake Life shot in a studio.

Impressed with the skills involved but to spend that amount of time for something that wasn't real seemed to be a waste when compared to the other footage that has been the Life show.

Well being involved in the filming of natural history for the last several years on and off I could shed some light on a few tricks of the trade so to speak .

Life is a great programme that is demonstrating the difficulties the natural world face and the tenacity of flora and fauna to survive. The truth of the matter is that if certain things were not "set-up" then being able to convey them in a broadcast would be verging on impossible. Life may not be as educational as some of the other natural history programmes available but it is certainly enjoyable.

Photography or video aside, it was fantastic to watch, who thought plants were that fantastic and merciless

The time lapse sequence of two corals attacking each other (episode8)was actually filmed in my friends shop in Kent rather than on a reef lol.

Hiya
It was just the coral fighting sequence, the crew were there for a good few days. The open water stuff and the spawning events have to be done on the reef.
I wasnt actually allowed in to view the filming unfortunatelly which was a bummer.

that is what wildlife photography seems to be
hard graft
patience
planning
and keeping a cool head

it was the most brilliant expo i have ever seen

LOL i know which shop that would be then, based in seven oaks I bet??

I used to keep marine fish/corals and have at first hand seen what they can do to each other... :)

Maybe I should do this on my reef tank, maybe then I can see what the hell is eating my star polyps :D

lol... probably nothing, those things are a nightmare to get rid of normally... but could be a nudibranc (Sea slug), or could well be a fish just being a fish (sometimes they get a taste of odd things)...

Hi Fuzed
I should have twigged who you were by the username, yep shop in Sevenoaks. Not much footage appeared in the proggy though.

I have had a lot of discussion about the snow leopard WPOTY winner last year -- a few professional togs I know were really pleased it won because they say 80%+ of photography is about planning, patience, waiting etc etc..and not about being lucky. LIFE though makes me thing I should take up gardening but then again there are some bloody good sods out there as well...
