Not bad, but Scan do some cheaper and they are known brands as well. :D

not bad at all that

Cheap way to lose 250Gb of data when it fails

They probably ended up in Lidl because they've been dropped down a flight of stairs or something en route to PC World.

dabs and other peeps do a lacie 250gb for about £55 so afraid no brainer.

PC world have a 320GB one for £89
I'd be wary of something like this from Lidl?

Nothing wrong with the price, but I would recommend going for brands that are known for their storage products, you'll usually find the drives to be better quality and performance than some of these white box items that are selling everywhere and anywhere.

I would suggest looking at Western Digital, Lacie, Seagate, Maxtor - admittedly Im not a fan of all these brands but thats down to my experience, and others will have their opinion.

All IMHO:thumbs:

Some reasonable thoughts there, but in reality the actual hard drives inside these cases are all from the same place, Samsung being the most prolific. I have three different makes of HD and all of them have internals by Samsung.

All hard drives are mechanical devices and prone to failure, that includes even the more expensive ones. If your data is that important to you don't trust it to one back up. In other words use the external HD but also make dvd or cd copies as well.

I keep copies of all my serial numbers and other important data for products in an online email account as well, I've had reason to be thankful for that a few times.

Here you go, PCWorld have 320GB Maxtors for £69 from tomorrow (boxing day)

oooh i might take a trip to PCworld tomorrow, get me away from the extended family :)

pre-ordered one online, if its not in stock i might have to crush some skulls

picked up a maxtor drive from pc world this morning, seems ok for the money, lets just hope it makes my computer run a bit quicker as its having a fit at the moment due to lack of space for its page file!

Did you get it in store whitewash? the one I saw advertised said web only.

They will actually price match there own website most of the time! got my 350 for the web price with a free 256mb CF Card because they decided they could price match their own site! its barmy!

Yeh so did I, for that price its silly, and my Tosh 320gb drive is nearly full, so I wanted one just for my photos...

ordered on the net and walked in and collected it and paid in the store, beating all the people queuing to pay to boot, im actually reasonably impressed with pcworld for once, some of thier prices are pretty reasonable for networking stuff as well, gonna buy a router tomorrow
