I'm awaiting a quote for repair to my Linhoff Synchro Compur F/8 shutter as the speeds are all over the place.

My other LF shutters are Copal and I'm wondering wether to bother having this Compur repaired or to search for a Copal 0 replacement.

Price very much comes into it obviously but as I've never bought a LF shutter without glassware, what sort of prices would I be looking at and where would be good places to search ( besides dodgybay).

Compur shutters are no ones favourite to repair. Even if they have all the special tools.
But they are usually good as new when done. So if it were me I would take out a few quotes.
flea bay often has copal 0 shutters for sale, but one must wonder why they are parted from the lens.
and they still might need servicing.
A linhoff selected shutter would have been up to very high spec when new.

OK Terry, thanks for taking time to reply ......

Are Compur shutters really that hard to work on then?

Hopefully I can get it serviced for a moderate price to save forking out for a "new" shutter ( as you say, that itself may need a CLA)......I simply want to go down the most viable route where i end up with a good working shutter that isn't going to fail in 6 months.

Drop Miles an email, got to be worth an enquiry at least.

I have only ever had one that needed a full service. It was much more expensive than having a press prontor done. When I queried the price they said that they were far more tricky. It never had any sort of problem again.

Just had a reply from Miles:) .....a service for the shutter will cost 40 quid plus postage ....so it'll be in the region of 60 quid for me sending from France, still a better option than replacing it i reckon....Unless someone else knows where i can get a good working Copal 0 for less than that:p:D

Go with Miles, you know it makes sense

There might be VAT on top of that, IIRC?

You could not buy a freshly serviced on for that.
