I have lost pretty much ALL respect for him at this point in time. I would feel much happier if he would take the £5,000,000 odd (an estimate by me £75m/5yrs +£20m/yr) that he is saving in tax and threw it back into getting youngsters into the sport (or other sport, or anything for that matter)

I'm sorry, that's pure greed, and one of the reasons why I HATE football and other high paying sports and all they stand for.

I'm sure there are other drivers who do the same, I know there are footballers and football clubs registered on Guernsey (don't get me started on Guernsey) for tax reasons, but as he is always saying how he is down to earth etc etc...

Well most of the better motor cycle racers and some of the British F1 crowd are registered in the Isle of Man for the exact same reason....

You earn a lot of money in a short period of time, you have a limited earning potential, so they make the most of it while they can.

It's not unpatriotic, it's sound business sense. LH decided on Switzerland, why I'm not sure as I hate the place, but you can't get the tax breaks in France or Italy.....

I wish my lifetime earnings were 'limited' to many millions of pounds !

If you want to be British and adored by the British public, pay British tax like the rest of us !

But its not like "the rest of us", its waaaaaaaaaaaay over and above. Its not fair that just because you earn more, you pay a much higher % of tax.

Maybe, but life isn't fair and we elect the governments that decide this. And a lot of people do also pay the higher rate tax.

And if you dont like who has been elected, or the rules, you jump ship. It does not mean you are not patriotic, just means you don't like the government tearing you a new one at every given opportunity.

Gordon Brown is a thieving *****bag, and he has raised taxes via stealth tactics so much over the last decade. This country makes me sick, the money they take off its residents.

This could decend into a political discussion. My point is that the tax system is what it is, whether it's direct or stealth taxes, all governments have used all sorts of methods to tax us directly and indirectly. Just be thankful you never faced the old 'Supertax' of, I think, 90%. Any high earner should be thankful at how much things have improved for them and not the opposite.

I just find it an insult to the British taxpayer, that someone who is British, who races in Britain in front of hard earning Bristish taxpayers, courts the British media, is sponsored in part by British companies, is supported by a British team, feels he is above all of them and does not have to contribute the same as the rest of us.

Everyone would like to shave what they can off their tax, but paying none at all is not very sporting to me.

P.S. if all the higheest earners paid their tax in full, it might even reduce the burden a little for the rest of us, including you :D

I can see your point, I guess I am just raw. I would say 60% to 70% of my earnings go to this government, I really believe that. Some of it, my own fault (CSA), but overall I am being robbed blind.

Makes me want to move.

I agree, i hate the amount i lose in tax and NI and stealth taxation and the amount of it wasted on quangos or inappropriate public spending etc.

I'd love to move to another country but for reasons ahead of taxation...
 
Personally I am very glad that the right man won the title. After seeing Massa's abysmal performance in the wet at Silverstone it would have been a travesty if he was crowned WDC.

I dont see whats wrong with Lewis being based in Switzerland, and I trust everybody that has a problem with him doing so have also expressed similar views on people such as Jenson Button, David Coulthard etc, by the way where does Michael Schumacher live? its an oft used practice , in fact my former local mp employs the same tactics....

Most others live in Monaco, or atleast rigestered there.

I know for one if i could afford to move abroad i would, as for another comment helping the sport its possible to do with out paying tax, Massa, Raikonnen and Schmacher all have different race academys or teams at verous levels which they fund. Massa and Schumacher both have karting tracks in there home country's, and Raikennen sponsors an F3 team

it doesnt bother me one bit where he lives what he does as he is british and have made 90% of britains proud

what people forget before slating is he has been driving in F1 for two seasons, whats to stop him putting money back into the place he went karting all those years back, he may even open a driving school in coming years with money, putting something back in. we can be so quick to jump in and say he is doing this and doing that but until he is retired and has done things we cant really comment that much as we dont know *** he will do to help himself or everyone else

Fact is that F1 drivers have lived in tax paradises for decades - even British 1s like Damon Hill & Nigel Mansell. David Coulthard lives in Switzerland too & I don't see anybody slagging him for that.

Or Michael Schumacher who lives there too.

Totally agree on both points, you could go even futher then F1 as alot of top line motorsport drivers car and bike for example Shane Byne BSB champion for example lives in Switzerland to.

Sounds like some people just clutching at straws for reasons not to like him lol

I would admit that I am quite envious of what he has... That doesn't mean that because he has more than most that he should avoid paying into the scheme that helped get him there.

I did not know about DC, and I don't care about Shumacher as his tax avoidance doesn't affect me directly. As I said before, I don't like the fact that the money they are paid comes from US and they won't put back into the system. This is the same for footballers, racing drivers whoever.

Surely, he would pay the same 40% on anything over £34,801 with current levels though?

Or is there another bracket above that? :shrug:

Thats the bit I don't agree with. Why just becuase you earn, say £300,000, should you have to pay a higher percentage? On the same percentage as everyone else, you would still pay a lot more.

It's actually so those on lower incomes can pay less. If everyone paid the same rate then they would have to raise the current lower rate to collect the same amount.

next will be awesome, i dont think Lewis is the "best" driver in the paddock, that goes to Alonso, but next year if he is given a decent car then the battle will recommence, same with Kimi if he can be bothered

Massa claimed he was good in the rain, he was in Brazil yes but it pouring rain at silverstone he was pants, imagine a world champ being known for that lol
 
I honestly think if lewis was up front at brazil it be a different story he would of legged it
