lol yea, British (in my la-la land world) is Mick Jagger, Brian May, and the Queen....now THAT's British :)!

I think she meant not stereotypically British. We are so in danger of going off the deep end here, let's not make a mountain out of an ant hill here. :nono:

I wasn't even thinking in racism terms, I was just thinking what a bizarre statement.

Surely there are all sorts of British people besides Mick Jagger?

haha my point proven :), both is parents were born in Grenada and immigrated to the UK in the 50's.... clearly NOT British, but a British citizen :)!!!!

oops, meant grandparents, and his mumsy is "british", so he's half, still has foreign roots!!

Basil Fawlty, yep that's another one, and Eric whatsisname from Monty Python :):):) mmmm!

his biography says he is Grenadian! I dont call myself Iranian just because my parents are, but then dont say im a yank, lol.... people nowadays lose touch with their ethnicity simply because of what their birth certificate says.

Which biography would that be then?

thank the lord Edingburgh Gary has a sense of humour!!!

Marcel, calm yourself mate, no-ones out to upset Baby Jesus, and there was nothing underhand about it. I thought I was being quite obvious.

From Wikipedia .. although I know how accurate that can be sometimes, this time they have it right.

Hamilton's mother, Carmen Larbalestier (now Carmen Lockhart) is white British, while his paternal grandparents emigrated from Grenada to the United Kingdom in the 1950s.[2] His grandfather (Oliver Hamilton) worked on the London Underground.[3] Hamilton's parents separated when he was two and he lived with his mother and half-sisters Nicola and Samantha.[7] At twelve, he started living with his father, stepmother Linda and half-brother Nicholas who has cerebral palsy

^^ so again, DOES have non-british roots!! not like its a bad thing, just I find it sad when people want to just classify themselves as what their passport says! that's what i love about the Indian crowds, is that they dont forget (and don't let you forget!) that they are of foreign background :)!

WTF is wrong with the British mentality....I really sometimes wonder

Can there be ANY other country in the world, that doesn't get behind one of their own, who is a leader in their particular sport?

This guy is NOT arrogant...confident yes, but there is a big difference between being confident and being arrogant.... when in interview, he is articulate, polite and often gracious when he has not been as quick as one of his rivals, but still speaks confidently in doing so!

As for his father being 'a knob'.... Well if fighting tooth and nail to get your sons talent to where it should rightfully be by holding down two or three jobs to fund that dream, then bursting with pride when many years later, all that hard work and sacrifice comes to fruition, I suggest you put yourself in his position and see how you would be too!

This wasn't just handed to them....it is a DREAM that both have fought to achieve over many years of hard slog...and now they've actually realised that dream, only to be met by this crazily weird British mentality of hating someone who has become successful

I'm sure it's not a racial thing, as has been suggested in some places....Steve Davis, to name but one, had the same thing - just because he had the 'audacity' to become supreme at what he did for many years....it is just a British trait that I have never been able to understand :bang:

Well if you go back far enough, most people have foreign roots. Even more so in the States!

Giving up now :bang:

I think most people classify you in terms of full ethnic background, as being a national, when your past 10 generations have lived in the same place... that's just what one of my college professors told us anyway!

I wonder if Yy has anything to tell us about Lewis' roots. Perhaps he dyes them.

well if anything this has certainly bumped up my post counts :D

All I can say I support lewis all the way and take no notice of sad people who slag. Get a life. That me finish in here

Assuming you mean Yv, I find it strange that you are having such a dig at one of our longer standing and distinguished members.

indeed. :suspect:

Can i suggest that people step away from the keyboard for 10 mins, or go look at something else on teh forum?

you mean im not distinguished?? I thought my profile cut a dash with the ladies!

Yes I meant Yv & I'm not bothered how long he/she has been around here or how distinguished you feel he/she is.

I bothers me though when he/she purports to know something about F1 & then conducts a monologue on the subject when he/she plainly knows very little about the subject.

Given some of the responses to my original post it would seem I'm not the only 1.

The point is that she created a post based on her opinion. You made it personal. This is a community and as such it's very bad manners for someone new to that community to make a personal attack on an established member. But that's just MY opinion.

Ok, not he/she then, she. Sorted.

Good grief.

OK, lets explain motor racing - blah blah blah etc

That doesn't look like opinion. It looks like a lecture. From somebody who knows nothing about HER subject.

Should SHE wish to express an opinion that is entirely HER own then I'm more than happy to read it.

I feel entirely within my rights therefore to take HER to task on the issue.

Well we were doing till someone decided we all needed to be 'educated'!

Ok, not he/she then, she. Sorted.

One more sarky comment out of you lot and you'll find the door closed.

Edit: actually, I've changed my mind, for being insulting you can take some time out anyway

dod got it covered.

right Dod, can you please explain to me how my comment was sarky, it was meant as lighthearted humour, it wasnt having a go at anyone else, in fact if anything it was having a dig at myself. Now i understand that everyones sense of humour is different, or it appears, non-existant in some, but please do not lump me in with other people for something completely different and please do NOT threaten me with banning without good reason.

If you can explain why you took offence to my comment, then i would love to hear why, otherwise, can i get back to enjoying this community???

Time Out?

Tbh, I agree with you on that point. I don't see what her number of posts has to do with anything, her post was incredibly condescending and (imho) incorrect.
