Letting go ...Decission made!

What about an F6 :D? Could sell all of them and even get a new one if you fancied.

PS this is not advice as such, as it's the only one on your list I've never owned. However on paper at least it is arguably better than all of them.

Much depends on which lenses you want to use, eg if you have any modern ones with VR then you should keep something that can utilise it (only film bodies that do are the F80, F100, F5 and F6 I think). If you have a variety of types then keep something that can accommodate them all (and arguably take advantage of their various advantages!).

@Woodsy has a good point and I might kinda mirror that. Apart from myself keeping my F2.

I have looked at the FM3a a bit myself but always thought its to much money to take on my adventures which my FE2 does very well.

Hmm. Think I'd keep the F2, sell the rest, and get another 5 F2s...just in case I run out :D

Otherwise keep the F, F2, FE2 and FM2. Maybe the F3, although I'm not that keen on it, and the FA to remind me of one that got away. Spotted it in a dealer's window in Joburg, looked mint and a fair price. Went in and checked it out, all good, and said I would buy it. The dealer then told me it was on consignment and he'd have to speak to the owner, but they'd had it for a while and there hadn't been any interest. Called me the following day and said the owner now wanted a lot more for it. I declined, and it was still in the window months later, but the owner wouldn't budge.

On the face of it the FA is probably less desirable than some others, but arguably I took some of my best pics with mine and it was a joy to use, until I broke it....the only camera I think I have done that to where it couldn't be repaired (even Miles W had to give up on it). I just think it handled well and worked impeccably as a manual focus camera with an excellent meter. Maybe I should get another one ;).

Agree with what you say about the FA. Read it has a bad rep because some of the early ones had fragile electronics. All this was oblivious to me back in 1986 when I bought mine new. 30 years later mine is still working fine & the only thing I have had to do to it is replace the seals. Have found the AMP matrix meter, even though it's primitive by modern standards to be quite reliable.

Well guys, all your feedback has given me plenty of food for thought.

I've started to sift through the bodies that I have starting with the F and F2

Much as it seems that the F2 is prefered by folk over the F , I've been having a play with both and in all honesty I don't see what makes the F2 so brilliant over the F .

OK so it has a faster top shutter speed but it's only one stop!

The film rewind knob on the F2 is slightly larger but as I have small hands / fingers, that benefits me none whatsoever.

The F2 body is ever so slightly more "rounded than the F although tbh I don't find it any more comfortable or uncomfortable to carry.

The F2 has its own flash synch cord socket on the front of the body ....again no big deal, I have the accessory for attaching a flash unit to the F although I very rarely use flash.

The back swings open on the F2 ....yep, potentially faster for reloading film but I don't rush with film ....that's why i have a digi outfit! lol

Metering prisms...I admit that the LED on the F is more reliable but I generally don't take much notice of internal meters anyway, prefering sunny F/16 or if needs be, a handheld meter.

The shutter release is without doubt located in a more ergonomic location on the F2, but I can't say that I've been irritated with the F in that department...I simply point and shoot it without giving a thought as to where my index finger is located

As for size and weight, i think they're about the same

Just noticed, the shutter is quieter on the F although after using an Mamiya RZ, anything sounds quiet! lol

So is there something very specific and important that I've missed, cos if I've covered everything then the F2 is on the list to go...?

Well Asha might need the money to buy a T90 and T70 ;) ....but if he is not going to use some of his Nikons then it would give the opportunity to someone who wants to use them.

I'm kinda of the opinion that it hardly matters.
I could only imagine owning one of them, if I had two it would be by accident.
I'd just choose one with metering to use, I'm not a camera collector......junk..yes..........complete junk magnet, but cameras........nah

I have kept them all ...that's sort of why i still have them :D

It's time to move some of them on ...... Not an easy task when you kinda like 'em all!

You are absolutely correct ...One is all I need realistically but this reduction in kit is a painful process as it is ( even with pennies ( or is that centimes:thinking::D) going into the bank.

Given time the whole darned lot might have to go but for now I'm getting close to a decission .....Yes, I did say that although there is a chance that i may change my mind:ROFLMAO:

I'm trying to apply that idea to cameras that I can't be without, and its still just adding up to one, despite the others that I quite like.
I can only think of one that would be painful to move on.
Junk though can go, no problem.......I just can't be bothered, outta sight outta mind..:)

maybe that's the answer, stuff em in the loft and forget about them :D

F, F2, F3, FE2, FM2, FA.

STEVE.

Ok choice is made and I'm basically going with Steves suggestion with an additio,n of the FG .....ok so it makes seven but I was going to let the F2 go until you lot persuaded me that it's possibly the best thing since sliced bread! :D Time will tell, this collection may well reduce further in the future.

So the line up :

F
F2
F3
FE2
FM2
FA
FG

:)

There doesn't appear to be a Nikkormat FTn in your collection either, want to do a swap?

After a lonnnnnnnnggggggg deliberation and playing around with all these bodies :naughty::D), I've finally come to a decission ...I think ( I'm as bad as @Andysnap at deciding!:D)

The simplicity, fast shutter speed, the option of Aperture priority along with the ability to use in a fully manual mode means I'll be keeping the FE2, well two of them for the moment as I have a black and a chrome and cannot choose which to let go:confused:

The FM2 stays with me too as, like the FE2, it feels comfortable in my hands regardless of which lens is attached.

The F has to stay with me, if for nothing else, the fact that it is imo "the classic" nikon and I do enjoy using it with.

So as it is, I'm keeping four SLR bodies along with their 14 lenses ( some of which may be finding a new home too)

Everythng else is sold or will be;)

Only four Asha :(...I like using all my cameras (makes a change from the T70 :D) and I usually swap one film over to sometimes three cameras to enjoy their lenses.

Yeah that's the four Nikon SLRs

In addition there's a boat load of other kit to use such as:

RZ67
ETRS
Leica
Rolleicord
124G

and then of course there's large format, several p&s cameras and folders ( most have been gifts from friends;)) , and not forgetting that lame outfit more commonly known as digital:D

A varied selection I think:)(y)

Good luck Asha! In the Nikon world, I only have an F2, F3, F4 and an FE and I can't convince myself to get rid of any of them. :(
