I was aware a while back that there are a few courses around that allow you to use letters after your name as you progress through them. I know that's not really the important part, more what you'll learn but it would be nice.

However, I have forgotten the name of the course I am thinking off, you submit 3 images I think it is, then they are marked and if they are good enough, you get the first level, which allows you to use certain letters after your name. Then, you can go 2 higher levels if you wish, which allows you to add more letters.

Can anyone please help with the source or names of these courses?

Thanks,

Dale.

I think the Brooks school of Photography offer this. I think its based in Bournemouth?

My wife gave me some letters after my name.:D:lol:

I could sell you some letters. Which ones would you like? Let me know and I will pull a quote together, you can pay via Paypal.

Errr, and oh yeah if you want to send three pictures I'll assess them after payment received. But you will get your letters or a money back guarantee.

I had some letters after my name once.

Gas bill, leccy bill, bailiffs .....

They were after me for ages until I changed it by deed poll !!!!

letters after your name are overrated. I don't think I have ever used the letters I have after my name once. I think it makes it look like you are just showing off

RPS Distinctions give you letters after your name. You have to attend a panel and submit 10 images (at least for the Licentiateship and Associateship).

Edit: Beaten to it by MC Stoo!

Maybe you were thinking of the SWPP?

Not forgetting you have to pay yearly to use them with the RPS.

You could try the PAGB route - same idea but 10 individual images rather than a panel of 10. You need to belong to a club affiliated to the PAGB though.

I have letters after my name,
Thomas Best O.B.E.....( one big ear).

It does raise an interesting point about whether it's worth having letters after your name. Personally seems a bit pointless in any form of art industry, as the concept of artistic merit is purely subjective.

Letters after someone,s name just dont impress me at all, gordon brown has letters after his but i could get into trouble for saying it.:D:p:lol:

It's useful at weddings. There tends to be some some camera club officionado with a big lens and big flash determined to get everyone to acknowledge that he's the only one really worthy to take any pics - dropping 'FRPS' into the conversation is an easy way of short-circuiting it.

I had my business cards reprinted after my work put my letters after my name. Just looks so "try hard"

Is there any rules regarding who can issue "letters after your name"?

I think the answer is not...

Yours,

Arnold Rimmer BSC (Bronze Swimming Certificate)

You can get letters after your name from all sorts of courses and qualifications. Hell i have a few and some more to come in a couple of year.

I wouldn't dare ever use them, looks tacky and too try hardy imo.

RPS, I'm sure that's the one.

Whether it's worth it or not/showing off/etc, I just think it would be nice, but you'd also learn something from getting your submissions critiqued.:) I'll take the letters if they are coming my way but the learning curve is the important thing.:)

There is no law saying you can't stick any letters you like after your name unless they are used to fraudulently say that you are something you are not. Therefore any course you take can give you letters but if they mean nothing to other people they are not much use. Saying that most people do not realise that PHD is the same as Dr etc anyway so if the idea is just to big yourself up and confuse people then go for it ! The MOST important reason for getting a PHD is so that you can have Dr on your bank cards.

I'll have everyone know I have letters and numbers after my name:

Christopher Bell 1m,5m,10m,15m,20m,25m

They go together swimmingly!

:nono: The MOST important reason I got a PhD was to get a job as a scientist! However, after ten years of study and attaining three degrees I also have no problem using the Dr title given to me! I also would never try to infer that I am a medical doctor, especially since it would have been much quicker (and arguably easier) for me to become one!

where as I got mine for the sole reason of making the bank manager call me Dr. :tongue in cheak smiley.

BA .........

in 2 years  not photography related though lol..... then one day it shall be Dr.... i hope

They are only handy if people know what the letters stand for. Seeing a photographer with initials after their names such as MBA, PhD etc would mean a lot more to people than if someone has one of the photography associated letters after there name. That's not knocking those who have done it - but with all respect, taking beautiful photographs and submitting them to be marked isn't quite the same as studying for a Doctorate.

To me seeing letter after your name means alot to me if they are for the write reasons.

No point putting that you are a Dr of vettenary skills on a profesional photographers card. (ok not worded properly but you know what i mean)

I personally have ACIOB and later this year that will change to MCIOB now to alot of you that will mean absolutley nothing but to those in the building trade it will.
I worked hard to get them so why not tell everyone about them.
