I have to wash up the dishes and hoover the house, my dad's not letting my vaccum in the living room anyways, he's like 'go away i'm watching the news' :lol:. I do wanna get it out of the way though, parents they're worse than kids haha!

Hi, I gave up work at 49 to be a house husband while my better half carried on working, reason? we both had well paid jobs but hers was the better and the healthier. We found we had a better quality of life, despite the loss of my salary, with just one us working.

She has now retired early and we are both loving it:D

So how long have you been photographing?
 
Moved away from the green box setting about the time I joined, but I still struggle to find the time to progress:D.

I'm still more what you would say "got all the gear but no clue how to use it":lol:

I got myself the Olympus E-420. But wanting the Nikon D90 or better :naughty: suppose the one i got will do for now. Was hoping to start college this year but youngest not going to school till next year now so will have to wait. Plus work is busy just now so prob better next year can save up too :)

What about you?

Although I am not immature by nature I am always surprised when I meet old school pals and work colleagues, they always seem to have resigned themselves to getting older and talk, walk, act, and look the part.

I do honestly feel only 30 and I am still as fit as I was at that age:).

Half the fun / challenge for me is seeing beauty where it's not neccesarily apparent. I could look at you (well, a picture of you 'cos I haven't met you, but you know what I mean) and see that straight away, but it's a lot harder to find in a derelict staircase.

I want to go to college, I wanted to do a photography course but ever since I turned 19 I had this fear of going to college while being the oldest there :( I gave up!

I'm generally hideous so it's all good ;) I bet you could make me look pretty innit?
 
I think i'll research some too, before I guess I didn't know what I wanted to do but i'm willing to go to college for photography.

I've seen your photos, you seem to do a pretty good job of looking good all by yourself!

Don't neccesarily place too much value on going to study photography, you'll probably learn as much by reading a few theory books and taking as many photos as you can, especially ones outside your comfort zone, so to speak.

Honestly, I need to believe in myself more, I don't think i'm capable of being self taught!

Maybeif you gave it more time you could be near perfect. Do you really think it's worth spending money on college? Are you doing it for qualifications?

I know it costs alot of money over here. Cant go this year so that gives me plenty time to get better:)

Was wanting to get qualifications yes as i never done good at school and have none at all. Thought when little one goes to school it will give me something to do and enjoy it at the same time. I work as a Personal Assistant Carer and the hours can be dreadful. Would be so proud of myself to have some sort of qualification. Got certificates etc for care work but its not the same

Oh wow, someone in the same boat as me, i've never had any qualifications either, I mean you have qualifications for care work but I have nothing :| So it would be good to have something. I wish you the best of luck, that's why I want to go to college.

Haha, my posts, I sometimes read my own posts and think 'wow, i'm so immature and illiterate' lol not going to uni/college has had a huge affect.

Thanks for your wise words though seriously, it's a great boost!
 
The other thing you could (both) do that would work wonders I reckon is to meet up with some local photographers and share ideas / techniques. Doesn't have to be anyone amazing, but you'll learn LOADS from shooting with someone who's skills and interests are different to yours, and they'll learn from you too!

Oh guess what, that's a great idea but recently I emailed a few photographic companies in London, I emailed them and sent the my portfolio link asking if it was possible to do work experience/voluntary work with them. I got no response and I mailed around 5 different companies. So disappointing :(
 
They're probably really busy, to be fair. There must be a fair few posters on here from London, go out shooting buildings or street shots or whatever with some of them. Might not look as good on your CV but it'll do wonders for your technique! Then you can do some glamour / macro stuff with them, everybody wins!

Hi I'm Pooka (I'm not really, real name is a secret). Not been doing this long, but got pointed to this forum a couple of weeks ago and still trying to figure out who's who and what on earth is going on. No real photographic style yet, 'cus I'm an ex-nightclub photographer and looking to branch out into the real world...

I've seen some of your photos, I like them very cool and unique :)
 
What can I say - I like being fashionably late ;)

Fortunately most of my photos are hidden away in places most people would never find (ie, my hard drive :p) and the few I've uploaded I did quite like - but it's definitely a learning process. I've got to say, the people on here are very very very helpful when it comes to advice.
 
At first I thought there's no point in having one since almost all employers have internet access and may aswell preview portfolios on cd/web but I heard some people like to see decent quality prints also.
