So how's everyone doing? Seeing since i'm quite new here i thought we should share a few things about each other

My name's Salma and i love macro/glamour photography and i'd appreciate if you could give me any sort of photography tips in this thread.

Tell me a bit about you :)

I'm Ewan, I'm just trying my hand at every sort of photography right now, trying not to specialise too much in anything.

My tip:

When using a high ISO, don't forget to put it back down when you're done! Nothing worse than coming back from a great shoot then realising you've shot everything at 3200 ISO and they're all ridiculously grainy :bonk:

Welcome to TP :D

Hi Salma, I'm Chris :) I like studio portait/glamour/art nude photography with a bit of landscape when the model's aren't biting :)

Hi Salma,
I'm David I tend to shoot sport and a bit of wildlife, I occaisionally do portraiture and really like it.

While we're sharing I am an 18 year old first year engineering student at exeter university.

Take the lens cap off when you pick up the camera, I do this all the time and looking through the viewfinder then taking off the cap is either a great icebreaker or just another way to look silly.

Also where's Tring I've never heard of it :D

Hi I'm Andy and i'm an alcoholic....:D

Only joking!

Sorry, someone had to!

It's ok Andy, I'm Chris and I am an alcaholic, or at least verging on it recently!

well im Matt, i co-own this place and TBH im getting a bit fed up with 2 things, people posting a load of rubbish photographs and then getting a strop on when they are told, and people arguing. Other than that im pretty happy! Welcome to the forums!

I am trying my best not to specialise in Macro too much, so far the only type of photography i've done is close up it needs to stop or calm down a little :nono: lol.

That'sa good tip, luckily though i haven't used a high ISO at all

Hey Chris :)

I am trying to get into the same field, but no nude, just glamour and portrait. Good on ya, do you have an online portfolio or gallery somewhere?

Would be good to see your portfolio, i wanted to take wildlife photos but haven't really been to a park or zoo since i've bought my camera, did you take photos of lions yet ? :p

I'm so bad, i never put my lens cap on, i really should

Hey Matt, oh gosh i hope i'm not one of those people :cuckoo:

Well if you're gonna post pictures expect criticism, i mean people are entitled to their opinion, if it's making people get uptight about it, well they shouldn't post their photos.

Thanks alot, i love this place <3

You can rent studios? No way, how much for? When i'm rich i'll set up my own but until then renting sounds awesome.

Thanks alot, i made a few threads in the macro section, i posted a few images and really appreciate the criticism because of that i'm gradually brushing up on the few errors.

You can rent them for around £15 an hour... normally about £60 for a half a day.

So - Hello I'm James!

I mainly shoot Music and Portrait/studio

I am starting to assist an amazing rock photographer.

Tip: Always look like you know what your doing, even if you dont ;)

:p

Regards, James

Hi Salma and gang :)

I'm Ian and like Landscape, Travel and Abstract Photography but pretty much want to give everything a go.

Oh, and unlike Andy and Chris I'm a non-alcoholic :D

Hi Salma, I'm Oleg from cold Russia.
I want to give you one advice - never take photographs without a good mood!
I'm absolutely certain if you are in a bad mood you never get something worth!
Best wishes

Oh my, i'm glad you mentioned mood, i have noticed myself a few times that when i'm happy my pictures turn out good, when i'm annoyed or tired they're just rubbish :bang:

Did you take the picture of the lion in your avatar?

Hi, I'm Ian and I do mostly landscapes and still life. I rarely do "people" shots. I'm passionate about meteorology and I'm a bit of a cartoonist. :D

My tip is . . . make sure you always have a memory card inside your camera at ALL times (or don't forget to put it back into the camera once you've finished uploading any photos onto your PC).
It may be the most obvious, and possibly the most common, mistake but God, I've lost count the number of times I've made the effort to get out and about with the camera, I'm in the middle of nowhere, turn it on . . . only to be greeted by a "No SD Card Inserted" message staring right back at me.

Hi Salma, like Dod I've been known to shoot the odd horse or two and I also try and fit in a few weddings. I used to do quite a bit of macro but don't seem to find the time these days.

I look forward to seeing your shots.

I pay £65 for a half day (4 hours) in the 2 studios I use. I had a quick search on Purestorm for studios in Hertforshire, but only found one with nothing about rental on thier site

Some studios will also run an indution to studio photography session, which helped me a great deal, it gave me an idea of workfglow in studio ,and also some little bits to make life easier (triggers, meters etc)

Can you find anything in Buckinghamshire and what lens do you use to take your portrait shots? I was thinking of purchasing a prime lens but i want to make sure if it's the right lens first.

No, I'm not in the business of taking self-portraits.
;)

The only one I know is near stony straford but Bucks is a big county
2-3hrs £30ph
4-8hrs £25ph
8hrs+ £20ph
they can supply models at "various rates" as well

By abstract I just mean the way the eye looks at a subject to get lines and shapes into the composition or an skewed view.

I just stopped the drink knowing it didn't really agree with me - iI have a pint every now and then but usually it doesn't bother me except for the lack of choice in soft drinks available at the bar :)

I have about 12 models waiting to be shot and their all gorgeous aswell so i'm fine in the department, guys and girls. Damn i don't know any studios near where i live either :(

What does PH mean per hour? How is this 4-8hrs £25ph
8hrs+ £20ph possible? :/

Yes per hour it just gets cheaper the longer you have it, Its nothing to do
with me BTW
if you wanted to be slightly more honest about your location someone might be able to help you. not necessarily in Bucks but in one of the neighbouring counties of which there are a few depending on which end / side you are

Amersham?

Salma, I used my 14-42 kit lens, but it's far from ideal for studio work. You want a longer focal length; some people use 50mm, some as much as 105mm.

Ah nice, they're still good photos but i think flickr didn't allow you to upload nudes :/

Well mine's an 18-55 and i want to get a prime lens, i'm trying to find one :D
