I've had a quick scout round and there doesn't seem to be a beginner's thread for processing images from IR modified cameras. Well, I just bought an IR camera and I'm a beginner at IR processing so I thought it would be a good idea to start one. 
[To keep things simple, let’s stick to IR cameras - faking IR should have its own thread.]
From an hour or so's play, it looks like an IR camera can do 3 things for me:
What are your go to resources and techniques for processing your images? What pitfalls have you found?

From an hour or so's play, it looks like an IR camera can do 3 things for me:
- Produce ethereal B&W pictures with translucency
- Produce really high contrast B&Ws with an "other worldly" look
- Do weird stuff with false colours
What are your go to resources and techniques for processing your images? What pitfalls have you found?
