This is a personal project, I’m just a technician who doesn’t usually do emotion or creativity, but at least the advantage of being a nerd is that the technical issues are easily resolved, and so don’t get in the way of the other aspects.

My father's father was gassed in the trenches in 1917, it took him 12 years to die, in poverty and pain.

After keeping silent for 60 years my grandfather eventually told us about his WW1 experiences. I have just been reading Birdsong by Sebastián Foulkes (the horrors of WW1) and now realise that my grandfather just told us about the highlights and concealed the real horrors of his 4 years on the front line. Given that WW1 was fought in a similar way to the american civil war, you would have thought they would have anticipated the carnage and adopted different tactics. I guess most of us around now have never known a World War and grateful for that.
