Very last minute i've been asked to take photos at a MMA event on saturday.

I'm incredibly excited about it but then realised i dont have a suitable lens. The 50mm isn't going to have much coverage as i'm going to be ring side.

Currently looking at the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 but i can't find any reviews on how it handles in low light situations. It's the non VC lens im looking at as i've read the image quality is better.

Any help greatly appreciated guys. At work and trying to research and get my work done is proving stressful! :bonk:

I have a Nikon D90

Whats you budget?

Ideally around the £400. I know obviously the Nikon lens will be in a different class but after only buying the camera/lens/flash this month i'm a tad on the skint side! :)

There's not a lot in it between the Tamron and the Nikon 17-55 - if you're on a budget you won't be disappointed with the former

The tamron 17-50 is a cracking lens, and its a bargin to boot.

Excellent! That's what i wanted to hear!

I just wanted a bit re-assurance before i go ahead and spend the £300 on it. My heads buzzing reading all the different reviews in the space of a couple of hours.

I was planning on getting a faster zoom lens but not this soon after getting the camera... I can't turn down the opportunity to go along to the show though.

Damn this hobby is expensive! :D

:whistling: Nonesense! It's your income that is too small :naughty:

Yeah i had thought about getting one... but... after reading the reviews on the image quality on the tamron if i can afford to buy the Tamron i may aswell use the money i'd spend hiring to buy a lens.

I just didn't want to spend the money for it to arrive and i realise it's pants in low light as the lighting at the venue isn't going to be amazing :)

I like your way of thinking!!

I keep telling myself it's an investment.

And that's it bought. Massive thank you to everyone who replied... hopefully i'll get some good shots on saturday! :)
