Hi,

I have just purchased a lens pen after doing some research on here but when using it for the first few times, it does seem to leave behind quite a bit of carbon dust.
Is this just excess carbon because it is new, and will it disappear with some more usage?

Many thanks

Philip

I've found that mine do that, so I don't really use them any more.

You could try wiping it with a lint free cloth, or microfibre cloth to remove the worst of the dust.

I usually use it with a rocket blower - I get this as well, so I push the carbon to the side and then rocket blow or wipe it off.

I haven't had this problem, and I've been using them for years. Is this a new thing?

I've only had this problem when the lens was slightly damp. Otherwise no dust at all

All ok here, makes me wonder if there are some snide copies about, out of interest were they purchased from a shop or Ebay?

Hi, Maybe wrong her but I have used a lens pen for ages and inside the cap at the top is a small insert of some kind of fabric and as I understand it after you use the pen on one lens you should replace the cap and give the pen a couple turns inside the cap this removes any loose fibres or dirt so you don't transfer dirt/dust from one lens to another.

Yeah, been using my lenspen since I got my camera and never had any problem with it at all. As said above, check that you're rotating after each use. if not then I'd think it's a dodgy pen.

I bought one from an established store last week, In fact is was the pro kit with 3 for different purposes. All 3 left behind carbon dust.
I presumed it was normal and blew it off with the rocket blower.
It did clean the lens and viewfinder quite well apart from that though.

On a similar note, anyone know why the filterklear cant be used on polarisers? Whats special about them that you can clean them?

I used the pen last night again, turning the cap before use, and it left some dust but not as much as the first few times. I will circle from the centre to the outside and blow off any dust with a blower as suggested because apart from the dust issue, it really does get rid of any marks on the lens.
Also, it is a genuine product sold by a shop in england, as ebay is now to much of a risk for purchasing stuff like this.

Many thanks for the comments and suggestions.

Philip
