i wanted to find out what the best lens would be for wild life and nature?

thank you please feel free to comment and i would really need the help

To fit which camera?

If for a Canon, the EF 400mm f2.8 L IS is supposed to be pretty good, though I haven't tried one myself. Don't know about other makes.

The best will be the big Nikon primes 500 f4 and 600 f4 but they are serious money

The best lens for nature is usually the longest focal length you can afford/carry/hold.

You will need at least 400mm. They are all expensive but probably Sigma is the best of the slightly cheaper options.

and is also the heaviest lens Canon make....bar none

If you are looking for a fairly good value zoom try the Nikor 55 -200 mm at around £140.00 it is a good cheap option unless you want something more pro.

Ah, but he asked for the best lens, not the lightest.

Money no object, most folks would go for reach and a 500/4 or 600/4 for wildlife. 400/2.8 is more of a sports/action weapon.

A budget would help.......... But the primes are the top of the pile

Nikon AF-S 300mm f2.8 G ED VR II £3989.00
Nikon AF-S 300mm f/4 ED-IF £959.00
Nikon AF-S 400mm f/2.8G ED VR £6499.00
Nikon AF-S 500mm f/4G ED VR £5738.99
Nikon AF-S 600mm f/4G ED VR £6926.99
Nikon AF-S TC-14E II Teleconverter £309.00
Nikon AF-S TC-17E II Teleconverter £283.82
Nikon AF-S TC-20E II Teleconverter £199.99
Nikon AF-S TC-20E III Teleconverter £399.00

Nikon AF-S VR 200-400mm f/4G £4379.00
Nikon AF-S 200-400mm f4G ED VR II £5490.00

I've been going through this myself and whilst I know long and fast prime is the best option this isn't usually within most's budget.

That at the end of the day is what it will come down to.. budget and what's available with a built in autofocus motor.

The sigma 100-300 F4 can be picked up second hand for around £500 and by all accounts works very well with a 1.4X teleconvertor as well as being a sharp lens.

Other than that I would just recommend using a nikon 70-300 VR, but I would try to get at least a 300mm lens
