Grays are excellent for service but I think are not the cheapest.
 
Agree with Edinburghgary, save up. I've got £475.00 stashed away and still saving towards my first L glass, dunno which one yet though
 
Jessops do price match, but it depends which one you go to.
We only price match SHOPS in a 20 mile area, on the basis that the competing shop has the camera in stock and its not part of a limited time deal.

I think we are very lucky up hear with the EDI city centre branch, when I bought my gear he gave me a before and after price, saved £1,400 (spent £7.5k). I thought it was a good saving, all lenses and filters were done at cost, the body, bag and tripod I believe I paid "jessops prices".

Ever since then, I have been given very fair treatment and they are always happy to discount & price match WExpres.

I have also taken things back, recently after 4 month with nio receipt, and had no problems. I know people don't like, but I would be gutted if my local closed.

I wish I had such clarity of thought :( I am drenched in debt (mainly a mortgage), but I have the "you only live once" attititude. I would never buy anything if I wasn't such a compulsive idiot. I have made some absolutely insane purchases unfortunately. The worst, I blew £12K on a hot tub using my credit card, I am screwed because of it now. Repayments are a killer.

Jessops gets a lot of bad press, mainly because not everybody who works there knows everything there is to know about everything, and because the staff are actually human, they do make mistakes.
Plus their prices tend to be quite high, due to having to replenish costs of staff and stores.
But if they get a good customer they will absolutely go out of their way to help.

The guy I insist on buying from is an a photo nut, he is dead keen and he just comes to life if you ask a question. You can tell he knows his stuff, and he really inspires confidence when you buy. A strange world, he's the kind of guy who deserves his own shop and the rewards that go with it. Sadly, he probably earns next to nothing, whilst bringing the company a massive boost in terms of customer loyalty and profit.

He's an asset to them.

Pittance pay for what we do.
I get paid next to nothing compared to what the guys in waitrose do.
I get no training whatsoever, so its bloody lucky I like cameras because I'd have had no chance.
I have to have an extensive knowledge of cameras and how they work, I have to deal with customers who mostly are rude or p*ssed off, I have to clean, I have to work on the tills, I have to send stuff away on repairs, and god knows what else. For sh*t all an hour.

Trying to juggle work and college is awful and I spend a lot of my time obscenely tired.
I suppose I should just open my eyes and realise that this is the real world!
