Lenses for D40's ?

Hi there.

Just a quick question that a mate of mine asked me today ....

He has a D40 and is looking to get a zoom lens. Apparently the D40 needs to have an AF-S type (motor) lens. (Or the new Sigma HSM ones ;-) ).

He is looking for a zoom of up to 300mm. He has a budget of approx £250 and prefers (but not essential) Nikon / Nikkor.

So far I have advised the 70-300mm VR lens (approx £275 so slightly over budget).

Can anyone else recommend anything - all makes, etc considered. PS - it must be AFS as he does not want to manually focus.

Where have you seen the 75-300 for £275? Thats a pretty damn good price depending on P&P.
 
I got the 70-300 VR recently for £277 including FedEx from Hong Kong. Got it from Kea Photo on ebay, run by westerners + guarantee to refund any VAT or import duties. Very happy with the lens and no problems with delivery.
 
Sorry - the £275 was in Calumet in Boston, USA!!!!

Bit of a hike to get there, but I'm over there in a few weeks so said I'd pick one up for him!!!

Other than that it is £283.99 from one-stop or even cheaper if you use the link from the poster above.
