Was not 100% sure what to label this as so its a bit long.

I'l say this now, sorry for it being such a long thread if it is

I am pretty new to photography and only have the basic camera and lens (canon 600d with 18-55mm lens) which to be far is an awesome lens and camera for me so far. I wont have a lot of money to start with looking at under £250 or maybe a little more for a lens.

I am looking for advice on which lenses would be good to move onto next. I have searched on the site and couldn't really find an answer for the Extreme sports lens. Although I have not yet tried extreme sport photography I would just like to know what I might be looking at for the future as I love all things in this category.

I am really into the modified car scene at the moment and its one of my big passions as I also own a modified car. The standard lens seems pretty good. So would be looking to upgrade to a better lens for this. Just wondering what people found to be a good lens for all things car related, Meets, rolling shots, random location shoots, racing and so on.

I do love just normal photography so a good all round lens would also be great.

If there is a lens that would be great at all three that would be awesome but i know they are very different subjects so will most likely require different lenses.

And just because I have not really put any pictures up here is one I took the other week:

Only had a few seconds to adjust before they left

Any help is awesome!

Stick with your kit lens and shoot shoot shoot don't upgrade it until you really know what you want from.it's replacement. If you want a bit more reach for sports look at the canon 50-250mm is or if you can find one secon hand the new tamron 70-300mm is lens both should be within budget(ish)

What type of extreme sports? There's a very big category that fits into it, bmx, skateboards etc. These type of sports go well with ultra wide angle lenses or fish eye lenses as opposed to telephoto. But best thing to do, is use your kit lens as I did, learn techniques and then upgrade.

With extreme sports however, there's no real lack of how close you can get(within reason). My suggestion would be keep the £250 and save the budget to around £350 and get a Canon 70-200f4 L. Second hand they can be bought for around this price (less if you're lucky). IQ is absolutely amazing I find and you wouldn't be disappointed.

I'd have to agree on an ultra wide/fisheye for what I consider 'extreme sports'

Car related stuff I personally like to shoot primes but I know a lot of people do shoot wide angle for them also - Depends on your tastes/style I suppose.

Track panning action a 70-200mm of some description should be fine - I used to use a Sigma 70-200/2.8 but I sold that off for a 135L

Thanks for the reply's everyone

I had previously looked into the canon 50-250mm as I would like a bit more reach at times. I also spotted the 75-300mm F4 mk3 for pretty good price. Would that be worth considering? I know there are other makes of lenses too but is it worth that extra more for canon? a lot of people say it is.

By extreme sports I would mean skateboarding, bmx, mountain biking and ones like these. I was going to test it out first then see what I want to upgrade too later just wounderd what peoples opinions were.

So the 70-200mm would be a great option to go for as seems like a good lens all round. Guesing the other ones I mentioned wouldnt be as good because the costs are a lot lower.
Also on the 70-200 they have F2.8 and an F4. Is there much different in these lenses?
Might have to see if I can get my hands on a few of these lenses to have a play with.

Used the f4 will set you back £350, the f2.8 around £8/900 (it could be less) presuming you go for used.

And to note; the two lenses are not bad to begin with. But they don't have fixed apertures, and for me that's something I would like to avoid. My moto is look twice, pay once. I got my 70-200f4 L, being my second lens ever bought, and have not be let down once. Only now am I looking for a 2.8 version. Speak to friends who might have these lenses or pop over to lensforhire and maybe hire one out for a weekend.

I have spotted them both around those prices a few f2.8 around the 400-500 mark. one even had insurance with it. Is there much difference between the two? I searched them and what they offer but personal use is always a better way of comparing.

Im guessing the other lenses i mentioned are far from the quality of this lens?

I also need a wireless flashgun but think il be getting the lens first.

If you plan to use the 70-200mm for other things such as portraits then yes a f/2.8 will be more beneficial but I found a lot of my panning shots in Tv mode put the aperture between f/5.6 - f/13 anyway on an average day.

I been reading more on the f2.8 and think thats the one im going to have to go for. Just need to grt a few more parts for my car and then i can get the lens. Might as well spend that bit extra rsther than skimp on the money and regret it.

Think i picked the two most expensive hobbies modifying cars and photography lol
hopefully be able to get a few more in a while too.

Thanks for the help might ask again when i get nearer the time of buying it. Loving photography though always have my camera on me.

Sorry for spelling mistake for one im not a great speller and typing on my phone doesnt help haha
