Im about to go and buy a Sigma 70-300 (macro usuable) from jessops.

It is right in my price budget and have been told its a fantastic offer for £150.

Before i do, is there any reasons i shouldnt?

Thanks.

If it is the 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO Macro DG (58mm) then it is a good price. Can only get cheaper on import.

If it is the 70-300mm F4-5.6 Macro DG (58mm) then it is £50 more and you can get it online from the UK.

That APO is the important bit. Really would advice getting the APO version!

The APO has "better" glass in it.
What do APO and Apochromatic mean?

The distance behind the lens at which monochromatic light (light of a single wavelength) comes to focus varies as a smooth function of the wavelength. If this function has a zero derivative in the visible range, and hence if there are two wavelengths at which the light comes to focus in the same plane, the lens is called achromatic. If there is a higher order correction, usually with the result that 3 or more visible wavelengths come to focus at the same distance, the lens is called apochromatic. Some authorities add more conditions. Apochromatic lenses often contain special low-dispersion glasses. APO is an abbreviation for apochromatic.

So your images will supposedly be sharper and better quality that the none APO version. Now given how soft the APO lens can be in some conditions then the none APO could be VERY soft :(

OK thanks for the help but i eventually decided on the Canon 90-300 f/4.5-5.6.

The store assistant reckoned this could handle macro as well but wasnt sure.
Is it capable?

This seemed pretty decent at 180 with £50 quid off coz he remembered my face from purchasing a 400d..

He also chucked in a polorizer filter..

Thanks for help so far..

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it seems far too expensive given THIS!

It seems to have a macro mode of sorts 1.5m but falls WAY short of a dedicated macro lens.

if that £180 then £50 off then that not too bad for Jessops, if its £180 after the £50 off then that sounds about right for Jessops :(

I bought it from curry's, so it was £120 because the guy give me discount for recently buying a camera.. So with my X amount of cashback it works out alright id say..
