Hi all I won this lens one eBay http://biSPAM/1gPldaE

I have had messages saying manual focus works fine and also if my camera has focus confirmations it will work on the lens. Is the price and faults worth £195?

Thank you

That really depend on what how your using it.. I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole as I ahvent the time to turn off and on again for autofocus or i will miss the shot...

Unless your only shooting static then i wouldnt bother.. but if your shooting anything moving and autofocus loses...

to be fair its listed as spares repair.. and as you can get a fixed used one for about 450 this really doesnt look economical..

But thats my opinion.. other may think the opposite :)

It could be something and nothing, so if you've bid, you should pay. I'd then send it to a repair centre to see what is wrong with it, and how much a fix will cost.

You won the auction for this lens, described as 'For parts or not working'. The seller described the fault with the auto-focus, so you've already taken the risk, and are committed to paying for it unless there is some other undisclosed fault.

Is it worth £195? I haven't a clue, that depends whether you're able to use it in its present condition, and/or what it would cost to repair.

You bidded and won, therefore you entered into a contract with the seller so you should pay.
You don't have a valid reason to pull out of the deal, it was advertised as faulty and you were fully aware of that when you bidded.
Personally I probably wouldn't have bothered as it's an early model so Sigma may not want to repair it though I bought one on here last year which had recently had a replacement AF motor fitted by them so there's every chance they will still support it.
The only problem is if it costs you more than say, £100 you could have bought a much later model which was fully working.
Sigma's service tarriff says £132 for "Focus / zoom / aperture / circuit" repair on the later DG version, that won't include your postage costs to them though it will probably cover the cost for them to return it to you. ;)

Looks like some poor e-Bay seller's going to get stiffed...

Worst case it will cost you for a repair.
Best case - it may be like a Tamron I bought, it worked fine and then occasionally stopped focusing. I had to either turn the camera on & off or remove the lens and re-fit it. After a very careful clean of all the lens and camera contacts the fault disappeared

Too late to ponder if it's worth the risk now you have won it. You should have thought about that before bidding.

Is it worth the £195 you are now committed to paying?

In my opinion, no. It might repair quite cheap, but more likely £130-£180 minimum for an AF repair from Sigma. You could actually buy a Nikkor 80-200mm F2.8 lens for under £350 and that will focus. If you look round you can buy 70-200mm F2.8 sigma lenses for ~300
