Any suggestions for a couple of affordable lenses to use on my Nikon D80? Just picked up the body this week and looking to put a budget kit together, mainly for portraits and some scenery. Nikon's 50mm 1.8 and 35mm 1.8 DX are some suggestions I've received already. Any others? Thanks.

The Tamron 17-50 f2.8 is a decent lens for the money - I've one for my D90 and use it a lot - great all rounder. Its under £300 for the non-VC version.

You can also pick up a 50 f1.8 s/h for about £50-£60 if you want a real budget lens to start with but you be better with something wider for scenery.

If you are looking for real budget, have a look at a Tamron 55-200. I picked a Nikon fit one up for about £45. Fantastic lens for the money

Thanks for the replies, will check out your recommendations. Also been looking at a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8-4.5. The Tamron 55-200 sounds like great value for money too.

Hi

I have a D80 and the lens I use the most is the 55 - 200 mm NIKON one. Picked it up second hand for about 120. Also have the 50mm D, nice lens and the 35mm which is good for low light indoors.
