Any suggestions for a couple of affordable lenses to use on my Nikon D80? Just picked up the body this week and looking to put a budget kit together, mainly for portraits and some scenery.
Nikon's 50mm 1.8 and 35mm 1.8 DX are some suggestions I've received already. Any others? 55-200?

Thanks, will look into that. What's the general opinion on the Sigma range? Equal to Tamron in quality?

It depends which model you're looking at. The general view on sigmas tends to be there is an issue with their quality control. The good ones are very sharp but there's quite a few duffers out there so always try the individual lens before you buy.
 
Yes, been looking at a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8-4.5 also. Good value for money it seems at about £150 used.
