Lens suggestion. Christmas present for me. Sub 50mm. Under £150

I have asked my mum for a lens for christmas. I will get more use out of one of them then a DS. Thing is, I want a small one for taking landscapes and buildings etc. I tried the kit lens but it doesnt cut the mustard. I need something sharp and that is going to give a good DoF when I need it :)

So:

  • Budget=£150
  • Length=<50MM
  • Needs to be Canon fit
  • Needs to have a low F stop

You're going to struggle to buy anything wide/fast/new for that sort of money, Matt. The sales forum is your friend ;)

Unless you're going to be taking a lot of lanscape/buildings you'd be better off sticking with the kit or kit IS lens.

I've just bought the IS version, new for £81 inc postage. Not had a chance to try it out yet but as it is meant to be better than the non-IS and I was happy with that .....




(I bought the IS so my daughter could do indoor/low light shots for her A-level Photography)

Yeah, if I am going to get a new lens want a different lens to what I hae got. Plus i am that unimpressed with the Kit lens, I dont want to risk getting another version of it :)

See if you can scrounge the IS version for a play, as far as I know it is a completely different lens to the 'old' Kit version
