lens sharp or not Canon 70-200 2.8

Hi can you please have a look at this pic of my grandson, it was taken with a Canon 70-200mm f2.8 setteing or

iso 640
70mm
f2.8
1/640sec

so how sharp should the lens be at 2.8, i bought the lens off ebay a few weeks ago, its not in the best condition so i dont know when and if the last service was
would i worth sending to canon to get it serviced for peacs of mind thanks for all you time

can't tell at such a small size. take a shot at iso 100 too, higher ISO will not be as sharp.

Yes, that looks sharp to me. What is it exactly that you see wrong - or is it just the mass hysteria of perfect optical performance that is getting to you...

Matty the focus point was his face and as you say the hat looks sharper

Poah will try some at 100 iso today there is a fair bit of noise, so it might be that which i am picking up on

Are you running auto ISO ? I ask as there seems to be an issue with Canon bodies where they do not actually select "real" intermediate ISO settings. Try to keep to 100, 200, 400 etc. If you select an intermediate setting in tends to become quite noisy.

I found my 70-200 2.8 was back focussing a little.

If you're worried, set it up on a tripod and take a series of shots of a static subject with different micro-adjustment settings, then pick your best.

Only way to tell for sure is take pictures of something that's not moving from a tripod so you can absolutely discount subject movement & hand-shake.
