Hello

This may be a stupid question, but has anybody ever set something up between friends or a club where you share buying in for lens. Lets face it, for many of us we don't use everything all the time unless we are pro's. I know I would be happy to pay in to get some lens if I knew some people that I could trust to share them with, and that way get a lot more kit at disposal for less money.

Thoughts?

Hi

It is a good idea in paper but i dont know whether it will work in practice.I do share my lens with my friends i know locally, but iam not sure whether i can do the same with unknown people.That is my view.

Someone posted this idea before and it quickly got shot down.
Think of the practicals..
Who pays for damage?
What happens if one gets nicked?
Who controls who has what kit?
What happnes if you suddenly want your lens back?

Leave it to the hire companies like lensforhire.. its what they are there for.
 
If there was only a few people who liked taking different styles of photography then it might work, but only if you put in the same amount of money and agreed on what lenses you'd buy in what order. Then you'd have to get everything insured just in case you ever broke one or had one stolen.
I do lens share on occasions but only with the wife and I'm lucky enough to have enough lenses to both do what we want at the same time. Between us we have 9 lenses at the moment so we don't really struggle.
 
It wouldn't work unless it is shared within a family or a corporation for business purposes.

I am not sure I would lend my camera gear to anybody after I've seen how some people treat their kit.
