Lens service

Hi,
sorry might be a bit of a basic question

Is it worth, and can you service a lens?

I have had a 17-40 lens for some 11 years now, it is the lens that is on my camera the most whilst out walking and on travelling type holidays, so it has been in and out of rucksacks and all that.
It seems to be working fine, but I wondered if a service might be due, to ensure I am still getting the best results from it.
I am not even sure what a lens service is..........

Yes you can. I have used Lehman's and they guy in Wootton under Edge for my repairs. After a such a long period of use, might be worth it even if it is precautionary. Can only prolong the life of the lens, I would say. Others more qualified than me might chime in and be more precise.

Hi thanks for getting back to me, yes, it was as I had had it a long time, and it has been in and out of rucksacks.....not sure if it is in my mind but i just bought a new lens and the 17-40 does not seem as sharp, but it might be in my mind
