lens ring mounts

I know this going to sound a stupid question but as i'm getting my first l lens how do the ring mounts fit to the tripod?

The ring has a "foot" at the base in which there is a threaded tripod socket. You can either screw the tripod head directly into the foot or screw in a quick release.

Quick release plates screwed onto the bottom of cameras and tripod rings....

so i can just screw the plate on the lens or get an extra one:bonk:

Yeah, I've only got one plate, use it on the lens when using it. Comes off when im not.
