lens repair in London?

Hi all

not sure if this is the appropriate place for this thread, but I couldn't see anywhere else in the main menu

Anyway - my Canon EF 90-300 4.5-5.6 lens has stopped working. It makes an odd whirring sound when I affix it to the camera body (regardless of whether it's on AF or MF), & won't take any pictures. The digital display on my D30 says to clean the lens attachment, which I've done, but it doesn't make any difference.

Does anyone know anywhere in London to get lenses etc. repaired? I asked in Jessops, knowing they'd probably be very expensive, & sure enough they said it was £25 just for an estimate & that it could take 2-3 weeks before I'd even get the estimate back!

Fixation in Vauxhall? I haven't used them as I just drop my stuff off to Nikon as I'm around the corner from them, but have heard good things.

It might be a slight stretch to call it "London", but Canon's main repair HQ is at Elstree, near Borehamwood. I had to take a lens in for AF calibration recently. I dropped it off on Wednesday and it was posted out to me that same Friday. Being a CPS member helped speed the turnaround. The work was performed under warranty, but the invoice said £41 inclusive of VAT and shipping.
