I've got this lens for my D1X but it's not really achieving sharp photos. Don't know much about soft lenses etc but is there a technical way of testing a lens for softness and what would be the best thing to do if it is - would it be worth having it fixed basically?

Cheers, will have a bash at that.

That's really for testing whether your lens front- or back-focuses; it doesn't really tell you about sharpness per se.

For testing lens sharpness you might find it more useful to use a test chart like the ISO 12233 standard.

Or just post some pictures here with EXIF data, 100% crops and descriptions of how you took them, and we can help diagnose your problems.

I take it RAW would be the best format to test with? Also, what about sharpening the RAW, I'm presuming if it's not focusing properly then even heavy sharpening isn't going to help it really?

The 17-55 should be really sharp, did you buy it new, or used and if used do you know it's history - has it be dropped or anything like that?

It could also be something as daft as having nudged the switch on the body round to continuous focus - it's easily done :whistling:

Was sorted.
