Hello,

Can DSLR lenses mix with different branded cameras such as using a Sigma Zoom lens to a Canon/ Nikon dslr? I ask because I am in need of finding a Zoom lens for a Fuji Finepix dslr and do not want to buy one of the home branded Fuji XF 55-200mm lens due top pricing.

Thank you for reading and apologies if I posted in the wrong section.

Many thanks, I will reply asap.

Third party lens manufacturers make lenses with different mounts to fit the major brand's bodies.
So, Sigma make lenses that will fit Canon, Nikon, Sony etc.
A Sigma lens for Canon will not fit a Nikon as the mounts are different. Pretty much all major brands have different mounts to each other. There are only a couple of exceptions.
Sigma, Tamron and Tokina are the major third party manufacturers.

If I remember correctly, Fuji Finepix (X Mount?) is the same as Nikon mount.

I have a fuji DSLR it is a s2 pro and it uses all of my Nikon lenses and my sigma branded Nikon mount lenses, infact the Fuji dslr's s1, s2 and s3 pro were based on a Nikon body as far as I am aware, as Kendo says.

No, the Fuji x-mount is not the same as Nikon. The S series Fuji's were Nikon bodies (D200?) with Fuji sensors, and hence took the Nikon lens mounts.

To the best of my knowledge, Fuji x-mount lenses will not fit a Nikon mount. I'd try and verify that as I have both at home, but I'm away for the weekend!

The XF 55-200mm is a lens for the current mirrorless x-series of Fuji CSCs, the mention of "DSLR" by the OP maybe beginner confusion and misleading people.

There are currently no Fuji mount zoom lenses made by other manufacturers. Sigma have suggested they might make Fuji mount lenses in the future, but haven't yet announced anything definite.

There is the cheaper Fuji XC 50-230mm lens (£250-£270), which is just over half the price of the Fuji XF 55-200mm (£475-£500). Both zooms get decent reviews.

With the right adapter you can use lenses made for most other camera systems (including Canon and Nikon) but these will be manual focus only and manual aperture only - and for most modern lenses that don't have an aperture ring this will mean that the aperture is fixed and uncontrollable (usually wide open). I do not recommend this route unless you're very comfortable with taking full manual control of the camera.

What Ken said except as far as I'm aware there are no third party lenses for Fuji except for some manual focus primes. You can buy adapters to use other manufacturers lenses but they are all manual focus only.

So, assuming you want it to autofocus you're just going to have to suck it up and buy the Fuji I'm afraid.

edit: Ok. What Alistair said!

Hi, Madanki and welcome to Talk Photography.

If your Fuji is a "proper" DSLR, it'll take any lens with a Nikon F mount and will work properly with any AF lenses to fit the Nikon F mount. However, there are lots of more recent Fuji CSCs (Compact System Cameras) which have a different lens mount, either XC or XF which will NOT fit the Fuji DSLRs. If you could tell us exactly which model of camera you have, we could be more helpful.

Hi everyone and thanks for all the feedback and help! Apologies if I left out some key details late last night, so then to give the full name of the camera it is a Fuji Finepix S6800. This is a friends camera and I do not know much about it, I know my game with Nikon/ Canon but not Fuji, so is the S6800 a csc or dslr? If dslr would a Nikon F Mount work as Nod mentioned?

Thanks ever so much for all your help, very much appreciated!

I don't think that range of Fuji cameras have inter changeable lenses. I recall having something like a S9500 many years ago & it was a bridge camera.
Yep. S6800 is a bridge camera, non-interchangeable.

It's a 'bridge' camera, and you cannot change the lens i'm afraid.

All righty question answered! Thanks ever so much everyone, it is really appreciated.

Have a happy holiday!
