I just use my camera bag, I think anything you keep lenses in should be breathable in case of any moisture getting on the kens, plastic containers would be Ok short term I guess while you were out and about but not for permanent storage
Thanks for the replies. My camera bag doesn't have a set of individual compartments for lenses, and so I've ordered a set of neoprene pouches, but they're not ideal - I love the one that came with my Pentax 55-300mm - it splits half way up and so it's not a tight squeeze.
The plastic beakers would only be temporary protection while in the bag, and just to offer a bit of extra impact resistance.
Just a thought. There was thread on here not too long ago where I think somebody used a roll up foam camping mattress as partition in a normal rucksack to make a camera bag.
Generally use my Camera bag(s) or I've a couple of the Lowepro lens cases - these are available in different sizes to suit your lens and are well padded. Tamrac also produce some very good lens cases.

I would consider a couple of holes in the lid etc to make sure you don't encourage any fungus. I can't help but feel a sealed plastic container combined with our lovely UK weather would be a recipe for disaster!
Just to be clear, this is for carrying lenses, not long term storage. I've got a padded bag, but I thought it might be worth using plastic containers for added impact protection.
I want individual lens protection so I can swap them from bag to bag.
I've started another thread about pouches and cases instead.
