Lens on or off?

On all the time, and changed as rapidly as possible. No mirror means the snesor is literally sta right in the hole left by the lens searching out dust particles wherever they may roam.

I always have a lens attached to each of my cameras.

Usually the 85L on the 5dii and then either the 70-200 or 24-70 on the 1diii.

Pretty much covers what I need without having to swap lenses much.

personally when working my bodies live in the peli with no lens attached. most of the time theres no point attaching a lens as like DemiLion said you dont know what lens youre going to use until you get there.

i even change lenses in dirty environments with the camera turned on. generally common sense and the 1Dmk3's sensor cleaning means im splodge free.

i think people worry too much about getting their kit dirty.. some of you would die if you saw some of my kit. the 1D still has horse drool on it from the weekend

edit - i should also note though that for non-work or times where i dont need all kit and limited kit goes in bags with limited size sometimes you just have to attach a lens to save space.

its a bit like marmite, its a personal thing there isnt really a "should do this" method.

Lens on all the time.

On top of the reduction in exposure to the environment and particulates, it's always useful to have a lens on if you need that rapid '5 second whip it out of a bag and fire away' moment when you see a shot coming into view quickly.

Lens always on, although I change quite a bit. So body upside down when changing and usually give the sensor and lens a blow before mounting onto the body to avoid dust.

Sorry but that's a false argument, for two reasons...

The first, and most likely, is that if you see the shot and the camera is in your bag, then you've probably already missed it.

The second ,is that if you have time to get the camera out, you also have time to put a lens on, and more to the point, the correct lens.

I always keep atleast one of my lenses on, just makes sense, so much hassle removing then putting it back on.

Solution: Wear camera with quickstrap at all times ;)

But with teh camera in the bag I normally have the right lens on for the type of photography I'm doing. Easy enough with slow moving landscapes and not too bad with the everyday 17-50 either. But I agree if shooting something like motorsport or wildlife then faffing around getting the camera and long lens out of the bag will most likely have you missing the shot.

I'm impressed. I rarely know which lens I'm going to use until I get on location and make a decision based on subject, lighting etc.

I know what lens I want on before I set out because its what suits my mood that day. And because I only have a few lenses I actually like using (...really must sell all those others...). I often carry alternative lenses with me, but rapidly settle-down to one lens and stick with it for the rest of the day after a few abortive changes and shots and rapidly discarding the unwanted lenses. But its a bit like using Primes instead of Zooms - some people have a shot in mind beforehand, some need to fiddle about before finding it...

Lens on all all the time

I always keep it attached, Even if your camera has a dust removal system, it's best to keep it on as much as possible (like, only remove the lens when your using another.)

...and when you take your camera out of the bag with the wrong lens on it.....

And when you take your camera out the bag with no lens on it a miss everything? haha;)

I have actually had a lens snap when it was on camera in the bag, I think it was just knocked at a funny angle though.
Still carry 2 bodies with lens' attached to the job though.

Same with me, always a lens on the body, 99% of the time it's the Tamron 17-50 just in case I see a shot and I can pick up the camera and shoot, rather than having to change from the 55-250mm or something.

lens on at all times for me too, d90 with lens on and d70 body only with 2nd lens seperate, if i could fit 2nd lens on d70 at same time in the bag i would

Camera lives in the bag witht the 28-135 attached as thats the way the bag is set up.
I change lens when I get to whee I am going as to what I am going to shoot, as I only have 5 lens its not hard to know which one I wnat attached to the camera for what i will be shooting.

spike

I usually leave the 170-500 on one body and the 18-200 on the other one (unless i'm doing something specific that needs different lenses)

but I store the spare bodies (film) which arent used that often, with their body caps on. If I ever manage to have spare DSLRs as well as my shooting pair i'll probably do likewise with them

I think you worry to much, treat it with care but it is built to be used. If in a few years time you want a camera to look like it hasn't been used then buy two and store one.

Relax and enjoy but treat with respect not kid gloves.

I always tend to leave mine with a favourite walkabout lens just in case I need to grab a shot quickly.
