Hello,
I recently bought a tamron 70-300 off a guy from gum tree anyway this morning got to the lens and twisted the zoom and it seemed tighter than usual. Anyway all of a sudden it wont zoom.

Emailed seller to see if he will refund but no doubt he will not as he will say its something i have done.

Have i just lost £100 or is there anything i can do ?

How long ago did you buy it?

It might have been dropped in the past...

You might be able to get it repaired - but it'll not necessarily be cheap...

If you only just got it, put a claim in with Ebay AND Paypal as Not as described. They will take it from there.

Got it on tuesday and also was via gumtree and bank transfer.

Great.. I think i may cut my losses and call it off then if its bust. I can hear something rattling as well inside now.

Really annoyed with this as a student saved up for a bit to get it and when i finally do get one its bust within a week.

seems like something got stuck somewhere. maybe a piece of packaging? it could also be an internal fault. i would contact the seller and see what he says. if he doesn't come back with a satisfactory response then raise it with ebay and/or paypal.

edit: gumtree is different. have a look at the site's guidance and see if there is anything to help you.

Did look round outside and nothing so i think its internal, sadly via gumtree and bank transfer so it looked like im f*****.

Must learn to wear my glasses!

Don't know much about Gumtree, only to stay clear of it!
Do the not have any kind of system to deal with this kind of thing?

HA! I'm not the only one who needs to keep his glasses on!!

O great, this is the first time ive used gumtree as well and its all via email so i assume not. I think its literally just a place to advertise.

yes. as it happens i'm effectively blind without my glasses.

roastchips, i can sympathise. if there was anything in the ad to say the lens was in working condition, that would be my basis to ask for a refund. as a very last resort, there's the small claims court.

Ive asked for a refund, seller seemed a nice guy so can just hope for the best for when he replys. If im honest if i dont get a refund i think i will have to swallow my pride and just face i lost £100 and learn my mistakes and not to buy 2nd hand ever again.

If it's gumtree - there's no comeback - it's just like buying something from a classifieds ad in the newsagent window...

It may be at the time it was sold that the fault didnt show? I guess you fully tested it before paying for it? Did you meet the person?

Just been on Gumtree to check, it seems you have NO recourse for a refund unless the seller agrees. It does say however that you should NOT pay for anything until you have seen it locally and DON'T use a money transfer! PayPal should have been OK as there is a fee for this.
I presume from reading above that you got it via Mail/Courier and not face to face so you could try it?
Sorry, to be the suplier of bad news, but contact the seller, inform Gumtree, and if no refund, leave scathing bad feedback for seller.

Was via mail yes, when arrived it seemed ok i checked it out ect and been giving its little tests all week but woke up today and as i say seemed slighty heaver to twist zoom then by this afternoon it just went.

Nothing wrong with second hand! Just the person/site/forum you buy it off!
Have a look at the classifides on here, I'm not saying it's perfect, but it is very rare something goes bottom up!

Ye, see your point but as a student while £100 doesn't sound much its taken me a few weeks to save and as a result loosing it has put me off big time.

You could try your DIY skills if it is no good. It can't get worse.

Unfortunatelly there is no comeback with gumtree, and you can't even leave feedback. Always, I seriously mean always, meet the person in a safe place, inspect the item and only then hand over the money. This applies to most personal deals. On the other hand, ebay recently got a little better for the buyer (and really bad for the sellers).
The only trouble I had so far over 3 years of buying loads of gear was down to horrible Sigma quality control, and a well-known nasty serial re-seller from Birmingham (my first and very sour purchase).

Gumtree, lol. Has to be the worst site ever for this kind of stuff - and trust me, I know. I was dumb enough to try it!

Lesson learned I think, unfortunately. :(
