I know how you feel Grendel, I hate spelling mistakes too!
If I don't know how to spell something (which is rare!) I look it up.
For speed, on the Net I use Firefox spellchecker as I type.
If the checker doesn't know the word I teach it.

Does it do English like wot it's wrote or is it an American alternative? tyre

Yep, that proved it...... ;)

I like my lens the way it is. :p

I've mentioned that on here before and been told off as it is not an important issue!!

I am glad Im not the only one who get annoyed by it!! :bang:

I physically wince whenever I read the word lens :gag:

:clap::clap:

Let's beat out these spelling gremlins! :bat:

:)

Hi,

I agree. Lens it should be.

What I find extraordinary, is that people who spell lens as lens, when referring to more than one, use len's, or lens' instead of the correct lenses:lol: What a conundrum!!

so nice to part of a forum where good grammer and spelling are up there in the priorities :geek: I did think about naming a particular country but thought better of it :D

However, the past-tense of 'to spell' is more correctly formed as spelled, although, not in itself incorrect. 'Spelt' is commonly associated with UK and Australian English and is less used in English per se.

Conundrum?

"Spelt" is a form of wheat......
"Spelled" can be to 'relieve someone in a task of work'.... eg, I did a spell for him etc.

At the end of the day..... there is no word lens ;)

Aye, it can be spelt either way, I hate to say it :D

(Because I dont like it spelt lens either...lol)

While we're at it...your and you're are two different ones too..:D And "They're, there and their"

And my personal pet hate at the moment..."OF or HAVE"

and its 'photomatix' NOT 'photomatRix'

Apertures get larger as the number gets smaller,

and onto pronounciation....

It's Specific, not Pacific you cretins. Ones a bloody great ocean, the other isn't. It's easy, it's english, your native language FFS!!!!!

Argh!!!!!!

And trivial pursuit. It's not PLURALISED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God I'm sad.

That's the exception that proves the rule!

Note.... in all it's (the dictionary's) subsequent definitions it resorts to having to use the correct word, LENS

lens is an ancient term which post-dates the original term for 'focussing glass' ~ Venetian, from whence they where originally produced.

It's a bit like "Ye Olde Worlde Shoppe"

:rules:

I agree with Grendle too spelling is sooooo annoying when done wrong like what we does.

God I'm sad.

Hmmmm.... I think I must be sadder....

There is no word "pronounciation" --- it's pronunciation...

Sorry ....

Don't worry Gandhi, Barry pulled me up on that one too last week

Oh did I? I actually thought I'd forgotten do it! :(

I think I missed my vocation..... ;)

PMSL!

:D

Irony....... ;)

You lot obviously have nothing better to do  Maybe you missed your vocation in life as an English teacher

What about the people that for whatever reason pronounce 'th' as 'f' eg free instead of three?

Cheryl please don't get me started again lol :runaway: That's my other pet hate :bat:

I think that is just being lazy. 'Th' needs a little more effort than 'f'.

My brother in law does it all the time - I've given up telling him about it!

I don't mind it generally speaking, language must evolve, but I do hate it when incorrect or improper grammar is used by radio and TV presenters, they at least, should set an example.

And my personal pet hate at the moment..."OF or HAVE"

Im afraid I almost shout out in anger every time I hear someone say "WOULD OF"

I want to explain it is "would have" (ie, "I would have bought that lens" !!!! :D:lol: ) which is often shortened to "would've" but from this shortening they hear it and think it is written "WOULD OF"

:bang:
