lens hunting help

hi all,
i belive when a lens focuses right out then back onto the subject its call hunting ??

anyway i`m about to bin my 75-300mm sony lens.
everytime i try and take a photo of a moving subject the lens defocuses then re-focues on the subject,by which time iv missed the shot.

iv got it set to constant focus and spot focus.

whats going on and how can i fix this ???

Probably not enough light or the subject is moving too quick.

Get more light or manual focus. The autofocus system needs a definate contrast change or colour change to lock. It wont lock onto a solid colour or something with no contrast.

well i braved the weather and popped down to airbourne today.
most of the display was cancelled,but the two black cats done there display ok,even when they went past slowly the lens was`nt happy
