What is the felt for?

Also, what lens hood would i need for my 50mm 1.8 Nikon Lens?

This on ok for a 50mm 1.8

Thanks, it was quite easy to do and not too expensive.

What is the felt for?

They say that it helps reduce glare from bright light such as the sun. I haven't compared it with / without but it was cheap enough to do and I'm happy with it.
